As the only young woman from Yen Mo district selected for military service in 2024, Pham Thi Thao (born in 1998, residing in Trung Dong village, Yen Nhan commune) previously studied culinary arts at a vocational school and worked for five years at a large hotel in Hanoi. Thao's parents are both factory workers at a leather shoe company and strongly support their daughter's decision.

Desire to serve in the military for a long time.

A week before officially joining the Vietnam People's Army, at the seminar "Aspiration for Contribution - Steadfast Steps Towards the Future," Thao and her younger brother, Pham Minh Quan (born in 2005), who had just graduated from high school, impressed many when it was revealed that both siblings had volunteered to enlist in this recruitment drive. Notably, Quan was admitted to the Party by the Trung Dong village Party branch just before the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Dragon 2024.

“We were born when the country was no longer at war. This is a blessing for our generation, as previous generations shed blood to achieve peace . My younger brother and I both believe that fulfilling military service is a sacred responsibility and duty of every citizen to our beloved homeland. My brother and I believe that the Army will be a good environment for training and growth. We hope to serve in the Army for a long time,” Thao shared.

For Ms. Le Thi Thuy (Trong hamlet, Yen Nhan commune), the fact that her youngest son, Pham Huynh Duc, recently graduated from the University of Transport Technology, volunteered to join the army has brought great joy and pride to the family. “My son joining the army is a joy for my husband and me because he has shown maturity in contributing to the protection of the country. I hope he will be strong and resilient, and that he will improve his health and independence. I hope that after his discharge, his unit will provide him with career guidance and support so that he can find stable employment in the future,” Ms. Thuy said.

Having participated in the general mobilization to the Southern battlefield to fight for national liberation and later continuing with the Vietnamese volunteer army to help the Cambodian people escape genocide, Colonel Luu Xuan Ha - Chairman of the Veterans Association of Yen Mo district - has instilled a passion for military service in the new recruits through beautiful memories of a glorious and heroic time of war.

"We have great confidence that today's generation will follow in the footsteps of their forefathers to protect the country. We hope that when young people join the military, they will strictly adhere to military discipline and regulations, especially in fostering close relationships between the military and the people, earning the people's respect and affection," Colonel Ha said.

Supporting young people joining the military.

To boost morale and support the youth of Yen Mo district in enlisting in the army, on February 19th, in Yen Mo district, the Army Youth Committee, in coordination with the Political Department of Military Region 3, the Military Command, the Provincial Youth Union, and the Ninh Binh Provincial Women's Union, organized a series of activities including "Military Enlistment Day" and "Tree Planting Festival in Eternal Gratitude to Uncle Ho".

The program included many meaningful activities, such as planting trees along the "Military-Civilian Solidarity" road; lively sports and games; a seminar on "Aspiration for Contribution - Stepping Towards the Future"; and giving gifts to young people enlisting in the military in 2024…

According to Major Duong Van Tuan, Deputy Commander of the Yen Mo District Military Command, among nearly 1,500 young people from Ninh Binh province who will be enlisting for military service and People's Public Security service in 2024, Yen Mo district has nearly 300 outstanding young people, including 165 who volunteered and 75 who have been admitted to the Party.

According to Major Tuan, in order to effectively carry out the recruitment and conscription of citizens into the military in 2024, the District Military Service Council, along with relevant agencies and units, have been doing a good job of implementing policies to support the families of soldiers, organizing visits, giving gifts, and monitoring the morale and providing timely encouragement to the families of active-duty soldiers and young people preparing to enlist.

Effectively commend and reward collectives and individuals who have achieved success in the task of selecting and recruiting citizens for military service; closely coordinate with relevant agencies to strictly handle cases of violations of the Military Service Law in accordance with the law.

"In addition to coordinating activities to inspire and support young people joining the army, we advise all levels to do a good job of receiving, advising, and introducing jobs to young people who have completed their military service and returned to their localities, helping them feel secure in their work," Major Tuan said.

According to Colonel Tran Viet Nang, Head of the Army Youth Committee, in order to encourage and motivate young people to enthusiastically volunteer for military service in 2024, the Army Youth Committee is organizing meaningful programs, including many practical activities in three localities: Yen Mo district (Ninh Binh province), Bac Me district (Ha Giang province), and Long Ho district (Vinh Long province). The Committee also presented gifts to more than 600 young people who were selected for military service and People's Public Security service in the three localities mentioned above.
