With the research on the effects of the fruit and leaves of the tangerine, two students of the High School for the Gifted of Natural Sciences won the third prize of the 2023 International Science and Technology Competition (ISEF).
These two students are Nguyen Thi Mai Anh (12th grade majoring in Mathematics) and Nguyen Binh Giang (12th grade majoring in Chemistry), High School for Gifted Students of Natural Sciences, Hanoi National University.
The project "Pharmacological effects on the central nervous system of the essential oils of tangerine and tangerine leaves based on pharmacological networks" won prizes in the field of Computational Biology and Bioinformatics (CBIO). This is the only official award of the Vietnamese delegation this year, according to an announcement on the morning of May 22 by the Ministry of Education and Training.
In addition, the project "Four-legged robot model to support search and rescue in landslide areas" by Le Minh Duc and Le Nguyen Trung Kien, Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, Ho Chi Minh City, received a special prize, awarded by the science - technology and business organization (US Agency for International Development).
The ministry said the ISEF organizers highly appreciate Vietnam's scientific research movement with many annual competitions, attracting thousands of students to participate. This is a premise for Vietnam to improve the quality of scientific research in general and national and international competition projects in particular.

First held in 1952, the International Science and Technology Competition (ISEF) is the world's largest playground for high school students (grades 9 to 12) in this field. To participate in ISEF, candidates must be selected from local or national science competitions.
This year's competition was held in the US from May 14 to 19 with the participation of more than 5 projects and 1.300 students, from 1.600 countries and territories. With a third prize, Vietnam was among 61 countries and territories that won the prize.
Vietnam has been participating in ISEF since 2012, with all prizes. This year, 7 projects of 13 students taking the ISEF exam were selected by the Ministry of Education and Training from 143 projects of students nationwide.
During the meeting with students on May 12, Deputy Minister Nguyen Huu Do said that when participating in the contest, students have the opportunity to meet and connect with young scientists around the world. Many businesses also come to ISEF to look for creative ideas.
