Sofitel Legend Metropole and Four Seasons Resort The Nam Hai received the highest rating, 5 stars, in the Forbes Travel Guide 2024 hotel awards.
Forbes Travel Guide, a US travel guide, announced its list of the world's top hotels for 2024 at the Star Awards ceremony in February. Vietnam had five representatives mentioned. Two hotels were awarded 5 stars and three other establishments received 4 stars.
The 5-star rating is Forbes Travel Guide's highest ranking for hotels that are "truly outstanding, iconic, offer world-class service, and state-of-the-art amenities." Over 200 hotels and resorts worldwide have been awarded 5 stars, including two representatives from Vietnam: Sofitel Legend Metropole ( Hanoi ) and Four Seasons Resort The Nam Hai (Quang Nam). In 2023, both resorts also achieved 5 stars, according to the award criteria.

Commenting on the representative from Hanoi, the awarding body stated that it is an "extremely beautiful hotel, steeped in the history of the century and offering nostalgic experiences for visitors." The resort in Quang Nam is described as "a tranquil sanctuary on a pristine white sand beach" for travelers wishing to escape the hustle and bustle of the coastal city of Da Nang.
Three other hotels in Vietnam that received 4-star ratings are InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort (Da Nang), Park Hyatt Saigon, and The Reverie Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City). In 2023, these three establishments were also honored in the 4-star category.
Compared to other countries in Southeast Asia, Vietnam ranks 4th in the number of 5-star hotels, after Indonesia (4 hotels), Singapore (4 hotels), and Thailand (3 hotels).

To be awarded the prize, candidates had to meet 900 criteria set by the organizing committee. For the hotel category, criteria included layout designed to enhance guest sleep quality and a selection of healthy food and beverages. Staff attitude and customer experience were also mandatory requirements. The overall rating for an accommodation establishment was based 70% on service and 30% on the quality and condition of facilities. A 5-star rating was the highest, followed by 4 stars. There were no lower ratings.
Experts from over 80 countries secretly booked and stayed for two nights like regular tourists in 2023 to evaluate and vote on destinations. The award-winning hotels represent only 20% of the total number of accommodations evaluated.
This annual award, established in 1958, honors hotels, restaurants, spas, and cruise ships in over 80 countries worldwide. Forbes Travel is also the founder of the Five-Star hotel rating system, considered one of the most prestigious in the world.
