The pair of dragon sculptures, installed on either side of the Ba Sang bridge on Ho Van Cong street in Tuong Binh Hiep ward, are a unique ceramic art installation, unveiled to celebrate the Lunar New Year of the Dragon in 2024 and the 10th anniversary of the ward's establishment. The creation of these two dragon mascots has attracted widespread attention, becoming a bustling check-in spot from before Tet until now.
Measuring 29 meters in length, the two dragon models are assembled from over 14,000 traditional fired ceramic jars. Each part, such as the head, body, scales, and whiskers, is meticulously crafted from clay and fired beforehand. The scales and whiskers, in particular, are the smallest details but also the most difficult to assemble. Through the skillful hands of local artisans, these two dragons have become a unique work of art, showcasing the characteristics of the traditional craft village.
The process from conceptualization to model completion took over 6 months and involved the participation of nearly 50 workers.
According to Ms. Truong Thi Kieu Chinh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tuong Binh Hiep Ward, the dragon model not only possesses high artistic value but also aims to creatively and uniquely promote the image of the local craft village and traditional pottery craft. This is also an opportunity to create a new record for Vietnam in the field of pottery art, contributing to enhancing the effectiveness of propaganda and promotion of the local traditional craft culture, with the craft village having been established for hundreds of years.
Currently, the two dragon mascots in Tuong Binh Hiep ward, Thu Dau Mot city, Binh Duong province have become a notable highlight, attracting the attention of many people from within and outside the province who come daily to visit and take photos as souvenirs when visiting Binh Duong province.
