TPO - A 150-year-old Trôm tree, a 200-year-old Kơ nia tree, and a 140-year-old Banyan tree in Binh Duong province have been certified as Vietnamese Heritage Trees. In addition, a ceramic dragon figurine in the locality has also been recognized as a Vietnamese record.
On March 8th, Binh Duong held a ceremony to announce the Vietnamese Heritage Tree and the dragon mascot for 2024, which set a Vietnamese record.
According to Mr. Le Quang Loi, Principal of Binh Duong College of Fine Arts and Culture, the school is holding a ceremony today to present the certificate recognizing the Trôm tree as a Vietnamese Heritage Tree in the school grounds.
Although located within the school grounds, authorities have determined that the Trôm tree predates the school's construction. The Binh Duong College of Fine Arts and Culture was established in 1901, approximately 123 years ago, while the Trôm tree itself is over 150 years old.

The Trôm tree has a main trunk circumference of 3.2m; a base circumference of 5.2m; a height of approximately 25m; and a canopy diameter of approximately 25m. The tree's trunk, with its rough, gnarled surface, is surrounded by many parasitic plants. The tree has many large branches extending in all directions, with its roots pointing towards the schoolyard. This is because the Trôm tree used to be located close to the river, allowing its roots to cling to the land.
On the same day, Mr. Duong Thai Khanh – Secretary of the Party Committee of Tuong Binh Hiep Ward (Thu Dau Mot City) – announced that the Kơ nia tree and the Banyan tree located in the grounds of the Tuong Binh Hiep communal house have been recognized as Vietnamese Heritage Trees by the Vietnam Association for the Protection of Nature and Environment. On the morning of March 8th, Tuong Binh Hiep Ward held a ceremony to announce the recognition of the Vietnamese Heritage Trees.
The Kơ nia tree is currently over 200 years old. The circumference around the trunk at breast height (1.3m high) to calculate the trunk diameter is 1.38m; the tree height is estimated at 37m; the canopy width measured by tape measure in the East - West direction is 30m and the South - North direction is 32m.

This banyan tree is approximately 140 years old, with a root system that extends deep into the ground, clinging tightly to its trunk. The tree has many branches and a wide canopy providing ample shade. At chest height, the trunk has a diameter of 9.6 meters; its height is estimated at around 27 meters; and the width of its canopy, measured with a tape measure in the East-West direction, is 42 meters, and in the North-South direction, it is 30 meters.
The Kơ nia tree and the Banyan tree stand embracing each other, appearing from the outside as a single tree; this unique feature has piqued the curiosity of the local people.
According to Mr. Khanh, this morning the local authorities held a ceremony to officially establish a Vietnamese record for the pair of dragons assembled from the most handcrafted ceramic jars and pots in Vietnam.
The dragon mascots, designed to welcome the Year of the Dragon 2024, are located on Ho Van Cong Street (Tuong Binh Hiep Ward, Thu Dau Mot City). Each dragon features up to 38 large jars and approximately 20,000 smaller pots.
