One of the big hopes of the Malaysian 4x100m athletics relay team has been forced to withdraw from the 33rd SEA Games to make way for a more veteran athlete. What shocked the Malaysian sports community even more was the reason for Danish's exclusion. Today (December 10th), the mother of the 18-year-old athlete revealed the entire sequence of events, reigniting controversy.
Accordingly, Danish's mother accused the coaching staff, specifically Danish's coach, of deliberately forcing the athlete to feign injury in order to withdraw from the SEA Games 33. In reality, Danish was perfectly healthy and eager to compete in the Games held in Thailand.
Tamrin Hashim released a series of images showing a conversation between Danish and his coach, revealing that the "captain" of the Malaysian 4x100m athletics relay team fabricated the reason for Danish's withdrawal due to injury. At the time, the 18-year-old athlete obeyed his coach for fear of repercussions if he vetoed the decision.
On December 1st, Danish underwent a comprehensive examination of the areas of his body that had been reported as problematic. The hospital concluded that the 18-year-old runner was completely healthy, contradicting reports of injury that led to his withdrawal from the team.
Three days later, Danish appealed to the Malaysian Olympic Council (OCM), stating that he wrote the withdrawal letter based on instructions from his coach. The OCM rejected the appeal on the grounds that the deadline had passed.
In the latest development, the Malaysian Athletics Federation has become involved, speaking with Danish and her mother and affirming that it will conduct a transparent investigation.
After dropping Danish, the Malaysian 4x100m athletics relay team added runner Khairul Hafiz Jantat. Compared to Danish, Jantat's current performance is far inferior. Specifically, at the Southeast Asian Junior Athletics Championships, Danish achieved a time of 10.61 seconds in the 100m race, while Jantat's best time was 10.71 seconds. In his most recent performance, Jantat completed the 100m race in 11.22 seconds.
Danish's mother alleges that due to the coach's manipulative tactics, her son was deprived of a well-deserved opportunity. She criticized Danish's coach for his lack of ethics and integrity in sports, accusing him of forcing his player to suffer an injury for personal gain.
