This afternoon (December 11th) at 4 PM at Chonburi Stadium, the Vietnamese women's team will play a crucial match against Myanmar, with the mandatory goal of winning to secure a place in the semi-finals of the SEA Games 33.
The 0-1 defeat against the Philippines puts Coach Mai Duc Chung's team at a disadvantage, with only 3 points, the same as the Philippines. This is a rare occasion in many SEA Games where the Vietnamese women's team faces the risk of being eliminated in the group stage. The whole team understands that only a victory against the group leader Myanmar will keep their hopes alive of defending their title at the 2025 SEA Games.

The history of their encounters gives the Vietnamese women's team confidence. Since their loss in 2005, the Vietnamese women's team has consistently held the advantage over Myanmar. At the 32nd SEA Games, the Vietnamese women's team defeated their opponent in both the group stage and the final. The most recent match between Vietnam and Myanmar took place in December 2024 in the group stage of the ASEAN Cup 2024 (AFF Cup 2024), with Vietnam winning 5-0.
Coach Mai Duc Chung emphasized that the entire team must enter the field with high concentration: "Myanmar plays fast, presses, and takes advantage of opportunities very well. We must neutralize that strength and cannot afford to make mistakes. This is a do-or-die match."
Despite still feeling disappointed after the loss to the Philippines, the entire team affirmed they would put aside the pressure and fight their hardest. Key players like Huỳnh Như, Bích Thùy, Hải Yến, along with young players like Thanh Nhã, Hải Linh, Trần Thị Duyên, and Minh Chuyên, are expected to overcome Myanmar and secure a place in the semi-finals.
