Units of the Northern Group of Forces of the Russian Armed Forces (RFAF) are actively implementing the order of Russian President Putin, given during his recent visit to the Kursk region, on the creation of a “security belt” along the border in the Sumy region of Ukraine. When the RFAF entered the Sumy Oblast of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) were not well prepared for the defense, and as a result, the AFU paid a heavy price, having to continuously retreat. Currently, the AFU in Sumy is seriously short of reserve forces and they have had to mobilize border guards on the borders with Romania and Moldova, to reinforce the Sumy front.
The 155th Marine Brigade of the Russian Navy's Pacific Fleet, currently part of the Northern Group of Forces' combat formation, has taken control of the village of Novokostiantynivka. Novokostiantynivka is located west of the village of Konstantinovka and north of Kondratovka, with the village bordering Russia's Kursk Oblast to the north. Judging by the map, the RFAF Northern Group is currently moving along the border, not only to the south but also to the west, which is quite logical. In addition, the Russian Defense Ministry has confirmed the control of the village of Andriivka, which is about 20 km from the city of Sumy in a straight line. Over the past 24 hours, the RFAF Northern Group has captured new positions near Novaya Sich, Yunakivka, Korchakovka, Iskriskovshchina and Sadky. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, on the Sumy front, the AFU lost 230 soldiers and 18 vehicles, including 8 armored vehicles. Rybar channel reported that there are currently battles in the forests south of Oleksiivka; the AFU has sent more troops to the area. Previously, the AFU had built defensive positions here with reinforced concrete, each of which usually had 5-7 soldiers. Despite the capture of Oleksiivka and Andriivka, it is relatively difficult for the Russian army to advance quickly south.
The Russian news agency RIA Novosti, citing the commander of a unit of the 155th Marine Brigade, codenamed Jadi, gave some details about the construction of a buffer zone in the Sumy border area. The coordination between UAV units, artillery and tactical aviation of the RFAF Northern Group of Forces, according to Jadi, was very well organized. Jadi said that the UAV units were tasked with reconnaissance, attacking enemy positions and supporting infantry. But not only that, Russian UAVs also sought out and crashed into AFU UAVs, especially large ones like Baba Yaga. With the terrain in Sumy, the assault infantry units of the Northern Army Group moved to the AFU posts on motorcycles and high-speed all-terrain vehicles. When approaching the Ukrainian posts, the Russian infantry abandoned their vehicles and used battlefield maneuvers to approach the target. In case the resistance at the AFU posts is still strong, the Russian soldiers retreat to inform artillery, FPV UAVs and even tactical air force to provide fire support; then they can safely approach the target - Jadi said. According to the Ukrainian Deep State Channel, the RFAF continues to gradually expand its zone of control in the Sumy region. Deep State notes that the units of the RFAF Northern Group of Forces are conducting offensive actions at a moderate pace, consistent with the tempo of the current phase of military operations.
“The situation in the north of Sumy continues to be complicated due to the constant pressure from the enemy with a large number of infantry,” Deep State said. At the same time, Deep State also said that the Russian army has now taken control of several more residential areas in the north of Sumy, only about 20 km from the city of Sumy. According to DeepState, the AFU is lacking the troops to stop the enemy. Deep State analyzed: “The situation in the north of Sumy continues to deteriorate due to constant pressure from the enemy and a large number of infantry… If the Russian army approaches within 20-25 km, Russian UAVs will be able to fly to the city of Sumy.” Deep State also believes that AFU is currently unable to prevent Russia from using UAVs controlled by fiber optic cables, which are capable of avoiding interference. The map released by the Deep State shows a huge gray area. However, almost the entire area is occupied by Russian units, and Ukrainian troops are gradually withdrawing. Ukrainian analysts are reluctant to admit this.
According to Ivan Shevtsov, spokesman for the AFU in Sumy, Russian troops are continuously shelling the area as they try to advance towards the city of Sumy. “At present, the territory occupied by the enemy is about 15 kilometers long and about 6-7 kilometers deep,” Shevtsov said. He added that Russian troops are trying to advance towards the town of Yunakivka, just a few kilometers from their current positions. (Photo source: Deep State, RIA Novosti, Kyiv Post)
