The first short-range ballistic missile was fired northeast at around 5:05 a.m. from near Changyon, South Hwanghae Province in North Korea. The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said another unidentified ballistic missile was detected at around 5:15 a.m. from the same area.

The statement said the first missile flew about 600 km and the second about 120 km. “We strongly condemn North Korea’s missile launch…,” the JCS said in a statement, adding that they had shared information about the missiles with the United States and Japan.
"The South Korean military will maintain its capabilities and posture to respond forcefully to any provocation while closely monitoring various North Korean activities in line with the strong joint defense posture between South Korea and the United States," the statement added.
On Sunday, North Korea criticized the joint military exercises held last month by South Korea, Japan, and the United States, warning of a "strong response" to such drills. Last week, North Korea announced it had successfully tested a multiple-warhead missile.
