Việt NamViệt Nam20/01/2025

The Lunar New Year is the time of year when people's shopping demand increases the most, especially for essential goods. To ensure a balance between supply and demand, the Department of Industry and Trade has coordinated with relevant units to implement a plan to stockpile goods, diversify sources, stimulate consumer demand, and stabilize prices for all items, preventing shortages and sudden price increases.

Leaders of the Department of Industry and Trade inspect goods at Go! Ha Long Supermarket.

Currently, traditional markets, supermarkets, shopping malls, and convenience stores are crowded with people shopping in preparation for the Lunar New Year of the Snake 2025. The most popular items among consumers remain essential products: confectionery, beer and wine, processed foods, and fresh seafood. According to businesses, distributors, and small traders, purchasing power this year is somewhat lower than in the 2024 Lunar New Year due to the impact of Typhoon No. 3, but it has still increased two to three times compared to normal days. Previously, to ensure the shopping and consumption needs of the people, businesses proactively produced and stockpiled goods to avoid shortages and price increases.

Understanding market demand, starting from the fourth quarter of 2024, GO! Ha Long supermarket developed plans to ensure sufficient reserves and supply of goods to meet consumer needs during the Tet holiday. All essential goods and food items were replenished threefold compared to normal days, with a total value of 200 billion VND. Contingency plans were also developed, ready to promptly meet fluctuating market demand. In addition, following the directives of the Department of Industry and Trade on stimulating consumer demand, GO! Ha Long supermarket implemented many programs offering deep discounts of 20-40% on all items; and voucher giveaways for purchases totaling 800,000 VND or more. These promotional and discount programs will be applied until the end of the Lunar New Year.

Ms. Pham Viet Lu, Managing Director of GO! Ha Long Supermarket, said: "It is expected that the consumption of goods during the Lunar New Year will increase by about 20% compared to 2024. To serve the shopping needs of people in and outside the area, the supermarket has signed a commitment to ensure the supply of goods, strengthen quality control, ensure the origin of products, and guarantee that prices will not increase."

At this time of year, people's demand for Tet shopping is much higher than usual.

To ensure the supply of goods for the 2025 Lunar New Year, starting in November 2024, the Department of Industry and Trade worked with centers and units distributing essential goods, requiring them to sign commitments to ensure the supply of goods, quality, publicly listed prices, and price stability. At the same time, many solutions were implemented to facilitate customers, such as diversifying shopping channels both directly and online, offering free delivery, and providing deep discounts. According to the plan, the entire province has so far stockpiled goods worth 1,300 billion VND, comprising 1,500 items.

The Department of Industry and Trade has also directed relevant forces and units to coordinate with localities to monitor supply and demand and market prices in localities during the Lunar New Year holiday. They are strengthening inspection and supervision of production, business, and import/export activities to prevent counterfeit, prohibited, and substandard goods from flooding the market. Business owners are encouraged to proactively plan for earlier and later opening hours compared to current times to serve the shopping needs of the people and tourists.

Authorities are stepping up inspections and controls on the quality of goods in the provincial market.

To stimulate consumer demand, the Department of Industry and Trade, in coordination with other departments, agencies, and localities, organized the " Quang Ninh OCOP Fair - Spring 2025" from January 17th to 22nd at the Provincial Planning, Fair and Exhibition Center. The fair featured 200 booths showcasing OCOP products from Quang Ninh, as well as agricultural and OCOP products from many provinces and cities nationwide, offering a wide variety of designs and prices, providing consumers with more choices for year-end shopping.

In addition, many localities throughout the province are also holding trade promotion activities such as: the Spring Flower Fair of Ha Long City, the 2025 Border Spring Fair of Mong Cai City, the Dong Trieu 2025 Flower, Ornamental Plant and OCOP Product Fair organized by Dong Trieu City…

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, said: "In the coming time, we will continue to organize inter-agency inspections, coordinate with functional forces to strengthen inspection and supervision at shopping centers and markets to check the origin and quality of goods, ensure stable prices, and protect the legitimate rights of consumers."
