Vingroup Corporation announced its development strategy for V-Film Joint Stock Company, focusing on long-term investment in the film industry, particularly in Vietnamese historical and cultural films that meet international standards. Notably, in the strategy announced on May 27th, Mr. Tran Duc Viet – widely known as YouTuber JVevermind – was appointed as the General Director of V-Film.
According to its announced direction, V-Film aims to build a film ecosystem with a distinct Vietnamese identity, focusing on telling stories about the people, history, and culture of the nation, but expressed through contemporary cinematic language, large-scale production, and the ability to reach international audiences.
Sharing the film studio's vision, Mr. Tran Duc Viet believes that cinema can become a tool for spreading cultural values and increasing national soft power. “ The world knows about Vietnam's beautiful scenery and cuisine, but doesn't truly understand the beauty of our soul or the depth of our history and culture. V-Film aims to create a film ecosystem where Vietnamese stories are told in the most modern language, contributing to making culture a national soft power,” said the General Director of V-Film.
The film studio's long-term goal is not just film production, but also building a complete film ecosystem, connecting creative resources both domestically and internationally. V-Film's operations will cover the entire film value chain, from script development, production, post-production to distribution.
To realize this strategy, Vingroup stated that it will invest comprehensively in V-Film projects and establish an advisory board comprising historical researchers, cultural experts, and academic advisors to ensure the accuracy of historical materials and the cultural depth in each work.
Alongside this is a production team with experience working in the international film industry, along with a force of young Vietnamese directors. V-Film also aims for extensive cooperation with foreign partners to improve production quality and gradually integrate Vietnamese historical and cultural stories more deeply into the global film industry.
In terms of implementation, the studio's projects develop on a multi-season model and expand into a multi-platform content ecosystem. The focus is on large-scale historical dramas, combining historical elements, character psychology, and modern cinematic creativity.
The inaugural project for this strategy is a film series inspired by the Eastern A period of the Tran Dynasty – a period associated with three resistance wars against the Yuan-Mongol invaders, along with power struggles and decisions that changed the nation's destiny.
According to the plan, the first season of the series, consisting of 10 episodes, has completed its script and is currently in the casting phase. Filming is expected to begin in July 2026, with release scheduled for the end of this year.
Tran Duc Viet's appearance as the head of a film production company within Vingroup's cultural ecosystem also marks a significant shift for the former YouTuber into the creative industry, at a time when Vietnamese cinema is seeking large-scale development models capable of competing internationally.
Tran Duc Viet (JVevermind) was born in 1992 in Hanoi. He is one of the pioneering figures of the vlogging wave in Vietnam. He studied Multimedia Communications at Cameron University (USA) and rose to fame in the early 2010s with his humorous and satirical videos about social life. JVevermind was the first Vietnamese person to receive the YouTube Gold Play Button and was included in Forbes' 30 Under 30 Asia list in 2016.
