'Blooming Flowers' preserves the beauty that is gradually fading away

'Blooming Seeds in the Field of Flowers' is an exhibition displaying gouache paintings, a medium that once played a fundamental role in modern Vietnamese fine arts, especially during the teaching period of the Indochina College of Fine Arts (1925–1945).

The gouache works in this exhibition are mostly from artists born in the 1930s and 1940s such as Bui Ngoc Tu, Truong Dinh Hao, Tran Nguyen Dan... - a generation in which images of a Vietnam on the threshold of urbanization such as traditional festivals, thatched roofs or folk games... were probably not unfamiliar in their eyes.

With its quick-drying properties, gouache can meet the requirements of demonstration in teaching environments, and is also suitable for sketching - allowing artists to capture fleeting rhythms of everyday life, promptly and intimately with an intuitive brushwork without the need for elaborate preparation. In addition to the advantages of low cost, easy preservation, and suitability to hot and humid climates, this material quickly became popular among artists at that time.

The exhibition takes place on the ground floor of the Hotel des Arts Saigon.

On a raw paper background mixed with pigments, those slices are recorded flexibly and expressively, as if to retain things that are gradually disappearing in the constant flow of replacement.

The Flower Fields in Bloom exhibition welcomes visitors (free of charge) from 9am - 6pm every day, until September 10 at the Café des Beaux - Arts space, ground floor of the Hôtel des Arts Saigon (76 - 78 Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Xuan Hoa ward, HCMC).
