This summer, many parents are choosing to take their children to bookstores and libraries to visit and read. The image of mothers and children reading together, or the whole family gathered around the bookshelves, is beautiful and shows the spread of reading culture in Can Tho.

Through the book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," we learn more about the magical journey of caterpillars, the rich animal world , and the many wonders nature has to offer. After reading "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" in English together, the instructor summarized the message from the book for the children. Following this, the children had the opportunity to experience making crafts, playing games, and more, creating a very joyful atmosphere.

This was the first day of the "Summer Fun Reading" program organized by the Can Tho City Library in collaboration with Aston English Center. Le Tra My, a student from Tra An Primary School (Binh Thuy District), excitedly shared: "Today, my mother brought me to this program, and I'm very happy! I got to read many comic books, especially my favorite Miko comic book."

Ms. Ha Hong Ngoc, Deputy Director of Can Tho City Library, said: “The ‘Summer Fun Reading’ program is held annually during the summer at the city library. This year, the program took place on four Sundays: June 8th, June 15th, June 22nd, and June 29th. Approximately 100 students participated, with activities such as experiencing reading, reading and learning about English comic books, making handicrafts, playing games, singing and dancing… Each time, the program presented an English comic book with different themes. After ‘The Hungry Caterpillar,’ it will be ‘Pinocchio’ with the message ‘Honesty is the most precious gift’; “The Three Little Pigs,” with its message “Hard work yields lasting results,” and “Little Red Riding Hood,” convey the lesson “Safety first – be wary of strangers.” “Through this program, besides helping children access more books, it also provides an opportunity for them to enhance their communication, social, and English language skills,” said Ms. Ha Hong Ngoc.

To welcome the summer market, many bookstores in Can Tho City, such as FAHASA Can Tho, FAHASA Ninh Kieu, Phuong Nam Can Tho, Hong An, etc., have decorated their spaces attractively, added a rich selection of cultural products, and implemented numerous promotional and interactive programs to attract child customers. On this occasion, in addition to experiential activities such as drawing and coloring, FAHASA also collaborates with publishers and partners to organize book introductions, games, and other activities, creating a beneficial playground for children.

In particular, bookstores are running promotions, discounts, and gifts during the summer, attracting a lot of customer attention. Walking around bookstores these days, it's not uncommon to see parents and grandparents bringing their children to bookstores and libraries. Many young couples bring their children to bookstores to read comic books, color books, etc., creating memorable moments for them. Ms. Ly Thi My Duyen brought her second-grade daughter to FAHASA Ninh Kieu bookstore to choose comic books, coloring books, and books for the new school year. Ms. Duyen attentively read comic books with her daughter, explaining the details in the stories. Ms. My Duyen said: “I dedicate my weekends to my child. Today is Saturday, and my husband is still working, so the two of us went. On Sunday morning, the whole family came to the bookstore. I really enjoy these moments of reading with my child.”

Reading with your child is not only a memorable moment but also a lesson in teaching them about the love of reading, and a catalyst for strengthening family bonds.
