In a petition sent to the Government and Ministries, the Vietnam Motorcycle Association assessed that banning gasoline-powered motorbikes in 2026 in some areas of Hanoi could create challenges and difficulties for many stakeholders. Among them, low-income people will be most affected, due to the burden of costs to buy new vehicles.
For businesses, the ban on gasoline-powered motorbikes will be implemented one year after the Directive is announced, putting pressure on the production system and supply chain. Motorbike manufacturers under the Vietnam Motorcycle Association believe that in order for the transition from fossil-fuel motorbikes to electric motorbikes to be effective and sustainable, a reasonable implementation roadmap is needed.
Preparation time for people, businesses or management agencies needs at least 2-3 years.
