Neymar is currently battling to avoid relegation with Santos in the Brazilian Serie A. |
Neymar is gradually regaining his fitness after persistent injuries, giving Santos' management great confidence. This is in stark contrast to the doubts from the media, and even some members of the Brazilian national team's coaching staff who once believed Neymar no longer had the physical fitness to compete at the highest level.
According to statistics from Santos' technical staff, Neymar only ran about 7 km in the recent match against Flamengo, a figure below the team average (10-11 km), but things improved significantly to 9 km in the match against Mirassol.
The players who run the most in the team often reach 12-13 km per match. Santos is full of optimism about this improvement in Neymar. Although still far from his peak, his fitness indicators show clear progress, especially as he has played the full 90 minutes in several recent matches without a recurrence of injury.
"Neymar is showing significant improvement in his fitness. We believe he will soon reach his peak and contribute even more to the team," a source from the coaching staff shared.
This is especially important as Santos are struggling in 16th place in the 2025 league table, just one point above the relegation zone after their 1-1 draw with Mirassol on November 19th.
Neymar was still experiencing some discomfort in his left knee, but Santos later confirmed the player had not suffered a recurrence of the injury. Neymar's return is not just a personal story but also rekindles hope for Santos and the Brazilian national team.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti is considering the possibility of recalling Neymar in the near future. The main goal is to bring the 33-year-old striker back to the national team environment to closely monitor his recovery process, ability to integrate, and actual fitness through training sessions and internal friendly matches.
