The U23 Vietnam team arrived at Tan Son Nhat Airport (HCMC) this evening (July 30). Coach Kim Sang Sik received many questions from the domestic media.
Among them, answering a question from Dan Tri reporter, the Korean coach said that he does not rule out the possibility that Southeast Asian opponents will add naturalized players at this year's SEA Games 33. At that time, coach Kim Sang Sik will calculate a plan to deal with the opponents.

Maybe after winning the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, opponents will recognize Vietnam U23 more clearly and study us more. Suppose U23 teams in the region add naturalized players for the SEA Games, how would you calculate?
- Certainly through the matches of the U23 Southeast Asian tournament this year, the teams participating in this tournament will understand each other better. The opponents will also study U23 Vietnam more carefully. Conversely, I myself will also study more carefully the opponents like Thailand, like Indonesia.
We will calculate the plan to renew our team. From now until SEA Games 33, there will be many changes, we will add personnel, and so will our opponents.

I will have to calculate all the possibilities. My colleagues at the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and I will sit down and calculate the best solution for the team.
What are the positive aspects of Vietnamese players after the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 tournament, sir?
- I think the tournament that just took place has great significance for U23 Vietnam. Through the U23 Southeast Asia tournament, many of our players have matured. They have accumulated more experience to be able to develop their careers better.
This tournament is the preparation of U23 Vietnam for the upcoming tournaments such as the U23 Asian qualifiers (taking place in September) and the 33rd SEA Games (December). After the 2025 U23 Southeast Asian tournament, my players have become more experienced, ready for the two remaining major tournaments this year.
Will there be any changes in the U23 Vietnam team and the Vietnam team in upcoming international tournaments?
- First, I want to confirm that the players who have just joined me in the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 tournament are all quality players. Currently, my goal is to build consistency in terms of playing style for the national team and the Vietnam U23 team.

When there is this unity, players will easily integrate into the playing style of the teams, every time they come to practice. Both the U23 Vietnam team and the national team are always open to all players.
Therefore, whenever players demonstrate their abilities and prove their development, they will have the opportunity to wear the jerseys of these teams. Particularly, U23 players, if they develop well, will have the opportunity to wear the national team jersey in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
Once again, how did you feel when bringing the cup back to Vietnam?
- I am very happy and feel happy to set foot in Vietnam right now. Here, in Ho Chi Minh City, my students and I received a warm welcome from everyone and the audience.
I feel very proud of my players. They gave their best and the result was winning the championship. Once again, I thank everyone, thank you for always supporting the team.
