On the evening of July 25, the Vietnam U23 team entered the final of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship held in Indonesia after defeating the Philippines U23 2-1 in the semi-final match on the evening of July 25.
Speaking after the match, coach Kim Sang Sik expressed his happiness with the victory of U23 Vietnam.
He said: "I am very happy that U23 Vietnam won against U23 Philippines to enter the final. The players tried very hard, I want to thank them. All positions played well, performing exactly as the whole team prepared before the match."
"In this match, U23 Vietnam created many opportunities. The players followed the tactics well. U23 Vietnam won 2-1 but missed many opportunities. However, I am very happy with this result," the Korean coach added.
Talking about the final match on July 29, coach Kim Sang Sik highly appreciated the host U23 Indonesia.
He said: "We have not faced U23 Indonesia yet. I need to watch today's semi-final match between U23 Indonesia and U23 Thailand to analyze the difference between the team of former coach Shin Tae Yong and the current coach Gerald Vanenburg (Netherlands).

But I think U23 Indonesia is stronger. And whether U23 Vietnam has to face U23 Indonesia or U23 Thailand, we need to be ready."
"So do you want to meet U23 Indonesia or U23 Thailand in the final?", the reporter asked.
Coach Kim Sang Sik replied: "It's very difficult to meet any opponent in the final match. The important thing is that the whole team needs to rest, prepare carefully and play confidently like today.
No matter who U23 Vietnam faces, we are confident. If we prepare well, we can beat any opponent to win the tournament championship."
Commenting further on the home team, coach Kim Sang Sik commented: "U23 Indonesia also tried to play in control, but not as well as U23 Vietnam. In fact, they are strong in situations where they release the ball behind the opponent's defense."
For his part, "hero" Xuan Bac - the player who headed the goal to seal the 2-1 victory for U23 Vietnam shared: "This was a rather difficult match. But the coaching staff came up with a reasonable strategy to win. The whole team needs to improve their finishing to end the match more easily."
