Coach Mai Duc Chung is satisfied with his students.
The Vietnamese women's team won the bronze medal at the 2025 AFF Cup after a 3-1 victory over Thailand in the third-place match. Three goals from Hai Yen, Huynh Nhu, and Bich Thuy helped coach Mai Duc Chung and his team close out the tournament with a medal.
Although they could not win the championship, the Vietnamese women's team showed impressive playing style and high determination until the last minutes.

Coach Mai Duc Chung shared: "On behalf of the Vietnamese women's team, I would like to thank fans nationwide and Hai Phong audiences for supporting, cheering, and helping the team win. After the AFF Cup, the Vietnamese women's team will temporarily disband, and the players will return to their clubs to compete in the national championship. I will directly go to the stadium to watch the matches, evaluate the players' performance, and select new faces for the team.
Vietnam women's team beat Thailand to win bronze medal: Hai Yen, Huynh Nhu, Bich Thuy shine
The Vietnamese women's team played their best in this year's tournament. The loss to Australia was just an accident, because the opponent was too strong and had superior physique. However, the fact that we made them confused in the second half was also very commendable.
Not only in the match against Australia, but in any match, the Vietnamese team played with more than 100% of their strength. I have nothing to complain about the players."
Huynh Nhu quenched his thirst for goals, with a goal that doubled the gap against Thailand. According to coach Mai Duc Chung, Huynh Nhu scoring is good, but even when he doesn't score, the 34-year-old striker still shows his worth.
"Whether Huynh Nhu scores or not, she still plays an important role in the Vietnam women's team," coach Mai Duc Chung commented.

When asked why he has not called up any U.20 players to try out for the Vietnam women's team, Mr. Chung explained: "In this tournament, I want to add some young players from the U.20 team, but because both teams have the same tasks at this time, the plan has not been implemented yet.
In the near future, after the domestic tournament ends, the coaching staff will meet and agree on which players from the U.20 team will be added to the national team to prepare for the SEA Games. Then everyone will know who they are."
Coach Mai Duc Chung revealed his plans for the 33rd SEA Games, where the Vietnamese women's team has won four consecutive championships (2017, 2019, 2022, 2023): "The SEA Games are still nearly four months away. We still have enough time to plan and prepare carefully for the goal of winning the gold medal."
Thailand coach admires Vietnam
On the other side of the battle line, Thailand coach Futoshi Ikeda affirmed that the two losses to Vietnam will be lessons for the players to improve.
"I want to congratulate the Vietnamese women's team. They deserved to win. With the Thai women's team, we have many young players. They will learn many lessons from failures like this," Mr. Ikeda shared.

The Japanese strategist also refused to judge the Vietnamese women's players individually, because "this is a strong team". However, he emphasized that the Thai women's team also tried their best and had no regrets.
"There is still time until the SEA Games. We will continue to adjust our playing style and change our personnel to aim for the gold medal," Mr. Ikeda concluded.
