"Quang Hai does not deserve to be on the national team, if we consider the criteria of form or number of matches played. Cong Phuong is the same, besides some players who have played a lot in the V-League but their form and performance are not good," Mr. Troussier said at a press conference at the headquarters of the Vietnam Football Federation, revolving around the problems of the national team in the June training session. "But I still choose them, because there are many other criteria. I respect experienced players who have played for many years for the national team. Therefore, I have called up almost all experienced players, that is, the group with more than 10 official matches for the national team. With a list of 34 people, we can create a competitive motivation, a comparison within our team."
Regarding the specific cases of Quang Hai and Cong Phuong, Coach Troussier said that they are going through an unsatisfactory period at foreign clubs, so being called up will help boost their morale. The French coach also affirmed that in the national team, Quang Hai is still important and what he needs now is confidence.

Yesterday, Pau FC confirmed that they will part ways with Quang Hai a year early, due to not meeting professional requirements. The Vietnamese midfielder became a free agent on June 30 without having to pay compensation to the French team. According to coach Troussier, this is understandable because Ligue 2 requires more speed and strength. "Quang Hai has pushed himself, but has not adapted to the intensity of competition and quick decision making," he commented, and shared more about the difficulties of players when having to get used to a new environment, in which climate, food, culture, language conflicts... are common barriers.
When asked about advice for Vietnamese players before going abroad, Troussier said that players and clubs need to understand and support each other better. According to him, there are clubs willing to pay high transfer fees, but lack investment in helping players get used to the new environment.
In the case of Pau FC and Quang Hai, Troussier gave the example of Quang Hai's parents visiting but only staying for a short time, because they were not given the opportunity to get a longer visa. The 67-year-old coach said that the club should have supported this issue to help improve the players' morale.
Finally, he concluded: "It is more suitable for Vietnamese players to go to Asia such as Thailand, Korea, Japan...
The team will gather today, but will not have enough players until June 7 because many players still have to play round 11 of V-League 2023. The team has about a week to prepare before playing friendly matches with Hong Kong at Lach Tray Stadium, Hai Phong on June 15 and Syria at Thien Truong Stadium, Nam Dinh on June 20.
