Coach Tuchel is unhappy with the World Cup draw results.

Coach Zlatko Dalić revealed Thomas Tuchel's reaction when England were drawn into a group with Croatia.

With a packed schedule and a transcontinental journey, England must carefully plan their strategy if they want to end their 60-year wait for a World Cup title.

Following the draw for the 2026 World Cup group stage, which took place in the early hours of December 6th, England were drawn alongside Croatia, Panama, and Ghana. Croatia's head coach, Zlatko Dalić, revealed a brief conversation he had with his counterpart Tuchel immediately after the draw.

He said: “Tuchel wasn’t happy at all about having to face Croatia in the opening match. He told me straight up: ‘We should have met in the quarter-finals, not in the first game of the group stage.’ But that’s how the draw is, and nobody’s happy – neither England nor us.”

This is not an easy group for either England or Croatia. And if both teams manage to get through the group stage, the next stage will be very challenging.

However, coach Dalić believes that it is Croatia's opponents at the World Cup who should fear them, not the other way around: "Everyone wants to avoid Croatia. We have created miracles in the last two World Cups."

According to the schedule, England will open their 2026 World Cup campaign with a match against Croatia on June 17th in Dallas (USA) or Toronto (Canada). Six days later, the "Three Lions" will face Ghana in Boston or return to Toronto. Their final group stage match against Panama will take place in New York or Philadelphia on June 27th.
