Plei Krong Lake was formed after the Plei Krong Hydropower Plant officially came into operation in 2009, at the confluence of the Dak Bla and Krong Po Ko rivers (secondary tributaries of the Se San River).
With a surface area of over 6,500 hectares and an average depth of 15-20 meters, Plei Krong Lake not only plays a role in water regulation and power generation but also creates a picturesque landscape amidst the mountains and forests. The people of Kroong commune often jokingly call it "Kroong Sea".

Looking down from the hillside, the lake appears like a giant "mirror" reflecting the vast blue sky of the Central Highlands. Small islands rise up in the middle of the lake, forming beautiful natural "oasis" where forest birds come to nest and trees still proudly stretch upwards. During the dry season, the lake's surface is calm, its emerald green water reflecting the ancient trees along the shore, making the place resemble a vibrant ink painting.
Besides its beautiful scenery, Plei Krong Lake also brings significant economic benefits to the local people. “Since the lake was built, the landscape has changed dramatically; the air is fresh, and the trees are green all year round. Many people in the area have switched to fishing and developed small-scale tourism services,” shared Mr. A Mlưn, Secretary of the Party Branch of Kroong Klah village (Kroong commune).

Thanks to its vast and clean waters, many households have taken advantage of this to exploit and catch aquatic products, mainly fish such as: snakehead fish, goby, catfish, carp, tilapia, etc. Locals have also opened services for tourists such as: SUP paddling, fishing, overnight camping... along the lake. Tourists can rent boats to explore the clusters of "small islands" that emerge in the middle of the lake like lush green "miniature desert islands". Each place can become a stop for camping, relaxation or recreational fishing...

Ms. Tran Thi Bich Hien, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairwoman of the People's Council of Kroong commune, said: "The locality has a planning orientation to develop the lake economy associated with ecotourism in the future, especially developing services such as: SUP paddling, boat tours on the lake, fishing experiences, overnight camping... The commune has also implemented the renovation of traditional communal houses of two Ba Na villages in the area according to the Ba Na cultural identity to develop community tourism, introduce the gong culture, musical instruments, cuisine and traditional festivals of the local ethnic minorities in the area."
