When asked about often being placed in a "rivalry" situation with Hoa Minzy, Phuong My Chi, or "being dethroned," Hoang Thuy Linh told Tuoi Tre :
"I just wanted to speak more broadly than that. More broadly than just mentioning the names. Vietnamese culture belongs to everyone, all Vietnamese people. I've only made a small contribution to the national culture, and there are many other areas as well."
"In our profession, I also inherited the craft. When creating my first works related to Vietnamese folklore, I felt honored to be able to mention the predecessors who had done it before me."
Hoang Thuy Linh doesn't consider herself a pioneer.
The three names Hoang Thuy Linh, Hoa Minzy , and Phuong My Chi are leading the Vietnamese pop music scene by skillfully integrating folk culture into modern music.
Hoang Thuy Linh always claims that she is "not a pioneer" but merely following in the footsteps of many predecessors in Vietnamese music. However, specifically in pop music, she is still a pioneer in bringing folk elements to the forefront of mainstream music, especially with young audiences, and a pioneer in spreading her music to Asian countries.

Hoa Minzy and Phuong My Chi also didn't "follow in Hoang Thuy Linh's footsteps," but instead nurtured this style for many years, releasing their products to the audience only when they were mature and good enough.
Hoang Thuy Linh's journey with this musical style has spanned over nine years, from the song and music video "Banh Troi Nuoc " (2016), which wasn't yet a strong statement, to two studio albums and a series of hits.
Her impact exploded with "Để Mị nói cho mà nghe" (2019), lyrics that blended inspiration from the short story "Vợ chồng A Phủ" with vibrant pop melodies played on traditional instruments such as the flute and zither.
Although the main character is Mị from literature, the song is very youthful and contemporary, speaking of a spirit of freedom, spontaneity, and strength. To this day, it remains one of Hoàng Thùy Linh's biggest hits.
Hoang Thuy Linh's later successful songs share common characteristics: playful yet profound lyrics, cheerful melodies blending various musical styles, accompanied by eye-catching and elaborate music videos with sophisticated aesthetics and costumes. These songs are both popular with young people and highly regarded professionally.

That's See Tình (2022), which spread to many Asian countries, especially China and South Korea, thanks to its catchy melody and unique choreography. Gieo Quẻ ( Fortune Telling) exploits the cultural tradition of fortune telling at the beginning of the year, with a vibrant EDM melody. Bo Xì Bo features many interesting wordplays and a fresh way of expressing the story of breaking up in love.
Hoang Thuy Linh's music consistently features groundbreaking ideas, elaborate presentation, and a clear artistic vision, despite being criticized for being overly focused on visuals and somewhat weak in vocals.
Hoa Minzy and Phuong My Chi have their own paths.
In fact, raising the issue of dethroning seems unnecessary, because Hoa Minzy and Phuong My Chi both have their own paths, creating distinct impressions compared to Hoang Thuy Linh.
Hòa Minzy stands out with her consistently cheerful and approachable image, emphasizing her love for her hometown of Bắc Ninh . Her song "Thị Mầu" (2023) is inspired by the famous character Thị Mầu from the traditional Vietnamese opera Quan Âm Thị Kính, combining electronic music and folk songs.

When she released " Bac Bling " (2025), she created a sensation with 40 million views after 10 days, and it is still currently ranked #1 on trending music in Vietnam.
The music video, with a budget of billions of dong, is a celebration of diverse cultures, featuring Dong Ho paintings, tug-of-war festivals, Lim festivals, pottery villages, images of Dau Pagoda, Ba Chua Kho Temple, Bac Ninh Quan Ho Folk Song Theater... and customs such as betel chewing and teeth blackening.
Hòa Minzy's strengths lie in her energy, sociability, and community engagement, but she lacks a complete album to solidify her long-term vision for this musical direction, unlike Hoàng Thùy Linh.

Phuong My Chi is a promising representative of Gen Z in Vietnamese music, pursuing a unique blend of folk and modern styles: a sweet voice, creative thinking, and a youthful, fresh stage presence.
The album "Crane Universe " (2023) consists of 10 songs inspired by literature and folklore, combining traditional Vietnamese opera (cheo), folk singing (chau van), and electronic music. The title track, " The Universe Has You," is a fusion of dance-pop, disco, pentatonic scale, and traditional Vietnamese folk singing (ca tru).
Hoang Thuy Linh has made a breakthrough with her widespread influence across Asia, Hoa Minzy is relatable and deeply rooted in her hometown, while Phuong My Chi represents the younger generation. Putting them in a head-to-head comparison, especially with questions like "Will Hoa Minzy dethrone Hoang Thuy Linh?", doesn't seem to accurately reflect the spirit of today's music market.
Instead, the Vietnamese music scene is diverse and offers room for many to shine, rather than focusing on usurpation of the top spot.
When asked what message she wanted to send to Hoa Minzy and Phuong My Chi, Hoang Thuy Linh told Tuoi Tre newspaper : "We still know each other, we still text and chat. Some things in the media, some third or fourth parties turn the story into something different, but we all know each other. I also invite you to the premiere of my film , Vietnamese Concert Film: We Are Vietnamese ."
