According to the announcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs : At the invitation of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Japanese Crown Prince Akishino and Princess will pay an official visit to Vietnam from September 20-25.

The visit to Vietnam by Japanese Crown Prince Akishino and Princess takes place in the context of Vietnam - Japan relations being at their best. In particular, the visit takes place on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations (1973-2023).

The Vietnam-Japan Extensive Strategic Partnership has developed strongly and comprehensively in recent years, with a high level of political trust. Exchanges and contacts at high levels and across channels have been vibrant. Senior leaders of the two countries have maintained regular visits and contacts at international and regional forums.

The two countries are working closely to implement the agreement reached at the online meeting earlier this year between General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Prime Minister Kishida Fumio on creating a breakthrough and bringing bilateral relations to new heights.

According to statistics, trade between Vietnam and Japan has been relatively balanced, sustainable and growing steadily in recent times. Bilateral trade turnover in 2022 reached nearly 50 billion USD, of which Vietnam exported 24.2 billion USD to Japan and imported 23.4 billion USD from Japan. Japan is the 4th largest trading partner, the 3rd largest export partner and the 3rd largest import partner of Vietnam.

Japan is the partner that has signed the most bilateral and multilateral Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with Vietnam such as: ASEAN-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (AJCEP), Vietnam-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (VJEPA), Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP). These FTAs have been creating extremely important cooperation frameworks, contributing to promoting trade, investment and business relations between the two countries on the principle of mutual benefit.

Vietnam-Japan bilateral trade relations have been actively supported through Japan’s foreign direct investment (FDI) and official development assistance (ODA) in Vietnam. Over the years, Japan has been the leading investment partner and ODA provider in Vietnam.
