The working trip to the US and Cuba is the first multilateral foreign activity of General Secretary andPresident To Lam in his new position.

Photo: Ministry of Foreign Affairs At the regular press conference on the afternoon of September 19, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam Pham Thu Hang informed that from September 21-27, General Secretary, President To Lam and his wife, along with a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, will attend the Future Summit, the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, work in the United States and pay a state visit to the Republic of Cuba at the invitation of First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, President of the Republic of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel. "The working trip is the first multilateral foreign activity of General Secretary and President To Lam in his new position at the largest and most important global multilateral forum. At the same time, the working trip to the US marks 1 year since the two countries established a comprehensive strategic partnership, towards the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. This is also the first visit of General Secretary and President To Lam as the head of the Party and State of Vietnam to Cuba," the spokesperson said. Ms. Pham Thu Hang informed that the working trip of General Secretary and President To Lam took place in the context of the Vietnam - United Nations relationship continuing to develop positively after nearly 50 years, going deeper and deeper, and being constantly consolidated and strengthened. Vietnam has increasingly participated proactively, actively, and made substantial and extensive contributions to the United Nations' fields such as peacekeeping , security, and development cooperation. It has successfully held many important positions at the United Nations, and has made many important contributions to the regional and global cooperation process. After 1 year of implementing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, Vietnam and the United States have achieved many practical results, contributing to maintaining peace, stability, security, and prosperity in the region as well as in the world. The two sides have increased exchanges and contacts, especially high-level contacts, and successfully initiated new dialogue mechanisms. Vietnam is currently the 8th largest trading partner and the 6th largest import market of goods of the United States. The two countries continue to effectively deploy and promote cooperation potential in areas such as national defense and security, education and training, high technology, including semiconductor technology, artificial intelligence, and continue to closely coordinate at multilateral mechanisms and forums as well as practical cooperation to respond to common global challenges. The traditional solidarity and special friendship between Vietnam and Cuba is a valuable asset that the Party, State and people of the two countries highly value and continue to develop well in all channels and fields. The two sides continue to maintain bilateral meetings, especially at high levels, and the relationship between the two Parties is increasingly deeper. The Vietnam - Cuba Intergovernmental Committee is coordinating many important areas of cooperation in rice supply, food production development, healthcare and pharmaceuticals. Vietnam is currently Cuba's second largest Asian trading partner and the largest foreign investor in Asia in Cuba. The two countries actively support and assist each other at international forums, especially the United Nations. Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said that General Secretary and President To Lam is expected to deliver an important speech at the Future Summit, at the 79th United Nations General Assembly, and have bilateral meetings on the sidelines of events during his working trip to New York. It is expected that during his working trip to New York, General Secretary and President To Lam will also meet with leaders of the government, parliament, parties, and a number of heads of sectors and ministries in the US, and have a number of other important foreign affairs activities. In Cuba, General Secretary and President To Lam will hold talks with First Secretary and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel, meet with President of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernández, Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, greet General Raul Castro Ruz, and have other important foreign affairs activities.
