An organization's operational "map".
Speaking with VietNamNet , Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Ha, Head of the Business Administration Department at the Banking Academy, stated that business administration is likened to a "map" guiding all operational activities of an organization. This specialized field focuses on managing, operating, and optimizing essential resources to achieve strategic goals and help businesses develop sustainably.
According to Associate Professor Ha, the biggest difference between this field and purely economic disciplines lies in its very high practical application. While other economic disciplines mainly study and analyze the operating laws of the market, macroeconomic policies, or long-term economic issues, business administration focuses on the internal workings of the enterprise.
"This field focuses on decision-making, resource organization, and directly managing the day-to-day operations of a business to create tangible value," Ms. Ha stated.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Ha, the current Business Administration training programs in universities are designed with a comprehensive roadmap, helping students develop from a foundational mindset to management skills.
Over the four years of study, students begin with a foundational and general education curriculum, including subjects such as Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Principles of Accounting, Management, and Finance and Monetary Economics. In addition, courses like Basic Marketing, Business Law, Economic Mathematics, and Probability and Statistics provide students with an overview of how businesses operate before delving into more specialized fields.
In the specialized phase, students study core areas such as Strategic Management, Human Resource Management, Financial Management, Marketing Management, Operations Management, or Quality Management to understand the nature of organizational management and build the necessary management tools for their future careers.
In addition, students receive training in skills and practical application to transform theory into practical competence. The program focuses on developing leadership, communication, presentation, business decision-making, and entrepreneurial thinking skills. Students are also introduced to modern technological tools and management systems.
However, according to Ms. Ha, to become a good manager, professional knowledge alone is not enough. The most important skill is analytical thinking and problem-solving, which helps learners gain insight into all situations and come up with optimal solutions. In addition, decisive decision-making ability and creative thinking are considered key factors, helping students flexibly apply their knowledge to the ever-changing business environment.
Diverse career opportunities
According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Ha, career opportunities for business administration students are very diverse, with many different positions in businesses such as administrative specialist, project management specialist, business operations coordinator, or manager at stores and branches.
If they possess a systems thinking mindset, they are also well-suited for roles such as assistant director, assistant manager, or operations specialist. After a few years of accumulating experience, they can take on higher leadership positions such as sales manager, operations manager, or business development director.
Besides the executive sector, the business, marketing, and human resources fields also consistently have high recruitment needs. Students can start with positions such as sales representative, market development specialist, customer service representative, or regional sales manager… or digital marketing specialist, brand communications specialist, market research specialist, and brand manager.
In addition, the rapid development of the digital economy is opening up many new avenues for business administration students, especially in the fields of business analysis, logistics, supply chain management, and e-commerce.
"With a foundation in management knowledge, students can build their own startup models, start their own businesses, or develop online business projects," Ms. Ha said.

According to Ms. Ha, the current employment rate for Business Administration graduates is very high, ranging from 96% to 100%. Graduates in this field also earn quite competitive salaries, depending on their abilities, job position, and specific specialization.
According to statistics from the Faculty of Business Administration at the Banking Academy, newly graduated students typically have a starting salary of 7-15 million VND/month, depending on the field such as marketing, human resources, sales, or digital business. After about 3-5 years of accumulating experience, income can increase to 15-30 million VND/month, or even higher for management positions or fields related to digital transformation.
However, she also emphasized that job opportunities do not automatically come to every student.
"Business administration is a field of study for those with analytical thinking, a sense of responsibility, and the ability to work with people. Success in this field doesn't come immediately; it requires a process of accumulating experience and continuous learning."
"In the era of technology and artificial intelligence, the business environment is changing very rapidly. Therefore, managers need to constantly update their knowledge and be ready to adapt to change," Ms. Ha said.
