On the morning of April 8, answering the press, Mr. Tran Anh, Secretary of the Hoi An City Party Committee ( Quang Nam Province), said that in response to many conflicting opinions about Hoi An City tightening ticket sales to visit the ancient town, the Hoi An City Party Committee has directed the Hoi An City People's Committee to postpone the implementation of this policy.

In the immediate future, ticket sales activities to visit Hoi An ancient town will be organized as before the COVID-19 outbreak; at the same time, the city continues to listen and absorb opinions from local people and public opinion to make appropriate adjustments before issuing new policies.

Currently, 90% of people buying tickets to visit Hoi An ancient town are foreign visitors, only 10% are domestic visitors.

According to Mr. Tran Anh, selling tickets to visit Hoi An ancient town has been done for a long time. However, when the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, from 2019 to 2021, Hoi An ancient town as well as many tourist destinations across the country were severely affected. To attract tourists, tourist attractions have applied policies of loosening, free, and discounting tickets to restore tourism.

Up to now, the epidemic situation has been controlled, the number of visitors to Hoi An ancient town has increased dramatically, causing the quality of services to not adapt in time, at many times, the space of Hoi An ancient town is overloaded. For the above reasons, Hoi An city is rebuilding the Project on controlling ticket sales and guiding tours of the ancient town in accordance with State regulations.

Hoi An ancient town is crowded and chaotic during rush hour, losing its inherent beauty.

However, there are currently many conflicting opinions on the above policy. Mr. Anh said that this shows the affection and responsibility of the people, domestic and foreign tourists towards the ancient town of Hoi An. The city will be receptive and listen to public opinion to make appropriate adjustments. The new policies on selling entrance tickets as well as dividing tourists into the ancient town have not been applied since May 15 as originally planned.

"Hoi An City Party Committee has proposed that Hoi An City People's Committee should continue to sell tickets according to the old regulations for now. As for the new issues in the project, we propose that the City People's Committee carefully prepare a report to the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee to continue to discuss thoroughly and reach consensus before implementing. Before implementing, it is necessary to organize to collect opinions from people, businesses... If there is high consensus, the new contents in the management of ticket sales to visit the old town will be allowed to be implemented" - Mr. Tran Anh said.
