The Phan Thiet - Dau Giay Expressway, 99 km long, connecting Dong Nai and Binh Thuan provinces, was started in September 2020 with a total investment of over 12,500 billion VND, a scale of 6 lanes, and was opened to traffic along the entire route on April 30, 2023.

By the early morning of July 29, 2023, heavy rain caused flooding on the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressway, resulting in deep water submersion at Km25+419 in Ham Tan district. Many cars were submerged and unable to pass.

Working with leaders of functional departments and agencies in Binh Thuan province, Dang Hung Thai, the executive director of the Dau Giay - Phan Thiet expressway project, affirmed that the cause of severe flooding was heavy rain and water released from the Phan River dam, not due to issues with culvert placement or project design.

Following the incident, the Thang Long Project Management Board - the investor of the Dau Giay - Phan Thiet expressway project - announced that it has agreed on a flood prevention plan for the Dau Giay - Phan Thiet expressway section passing through Song Phan commune with the People's Committee of Ham Tan district, Binh Thuan province.

According to the design plan for the supplementary contract, a rock retaining wall with a length of over 100m is designed on the left side of the route at Km25.

In addition, the authorities constructed an additional bridge and culvert with a reinforced concrete retaining wall approximately 15 meters long.

Currently, the contractor is completing the construction of the stone retaining wall, adding drainage ditches, and building a regulating reservoir to increase water regulation and prevent flooding along the section passing through Km25 (Song Phan commune, Ham Tan district, Binh Thuan province).

A reinforced concrete retaining wall, approximately 15m long, is gradually taking shape. From Km 25+200 to Km 25+420 on the left side of the route, a surface water drainage ditch is designed, divided into two parallel channels. One part collects surface water from the road and discharges it through a culvert across the service road; the other part discharges into a manhole at the culvert at Km 25+419.

Workers are constructing a retention pond with a capacity of 831 m3. The investor and the highway design consultant hope this construction method will prevent severe flooding like the one that occurred in the early morning of July 29, 2023.

The Phan Thiet - Dau Giay Expressway starts on the section connecting National Highway 1A to My Thanh (Binh Thuan province), which is the end point of the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet Expressway project. Its end point intersects with the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway, in Thong Nhat district (Dong Nai province).
