Casemiro played his last game for Manchester United. |
Manchester United will conclude the 2025/26 season with an away trip to Brighton on May 24th. However, Casemiro will not be available for this match after receiving an emotional tribute in the 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest last weekend.
In the pre-match press conference, Carrick confirmed that the decision to part ways with the Brazilian midfielder had been agreed upon beforehand. The English manager said: "I almost decided last week that this would be Casemiro's last game. Everything went in the best way possible. He deserved it."
Carrick also paid tribute to the former Real Madrid star: "Casemiro has been fantastic since I arrived here. Not only for me but also for the club. This is the right time to close his chapter and Casemiro himself agrees with this decision."
Joining Manchester United from Real Madrid in 2022 for a fee of around £60 million, Casemiro had an impressive first season in England. However, his declining form over the next two years made him the target of criticism, and at one point he even lost his starting place to young talent Toby Collyer.
Nevertheless, the resilience of a true star helped the Brazilian midfielder make a strong comeback. Thanks to impressive performances in training, Casemiro gradually regained his place in the squad before exploding in the 2025/26 season.
Not only did he control the midfield, the former Brazilian international also scored 9 goals in the Premier League. This is his best goalscoring record at club level.
