Chung Bun's son becomes a master
In the days before Tet, Mrs. Chung sat in a small corner of Quan Lat market selling noodles, some vendors in the market teased: "Wow, Mrs. Chung went to Binh Duong for a few days and looked ten years younger". Mrs. Chung smiled gently: "Don't tease me anymore. Any parent wouldn't be happy if their child was successful". The story of Nguyen Hoang Anh (26 years old, lecturer at Thu Dau Mot University, Mrs. Chung's son) just received a master's degree in law and is about to study for a doctorate in law with the topic "Vietnamese law on tourism promotion" was buzzing throughout the village. But it wasn't her bragging, it was teacher Ngo Khac Vu (teacher at Mo Duc 2 High School) who posted it on Facebook. Mr. Vu often came back and forth to encourage Mrs. Chung to focus on her child's studies, and when he had difficulties, he would call on benefactors to help. More than anyone, Mr. Vu knew the efforts of the mother and son. "Mrs. Chung is in poor health and lives in poverty. She is a typical example of a mother who lives her whole life for her children. I think this story inspires learning and filial piety for everyone, so I post it," said Mr. Vu.Mother lives all her life for her children!
Her love life was not smooth. Hoang Anh was born from a forbidden love. Mrs. Chung quietly left the man of her life, working hard, living for her children. Poor, she worked hard to raise her children, the hunger hanging in the air did not allow her to rest. For 40 years at the market, Mrs. Chung has never taken a day off. Even though she was sick, she still tried her best to carry noodles to the market. So she took three consecutive market days off to go to Binh Duong to receive a master's degree with her child, the whole Quan Lat market was "shocked", not knowing what happened to her. A lifetime of worrying about food and clothing, since her child started school, she has never attended a parent-teacher meeting, not knowing how her child is doing in school. "I have to go to work to have money to buy rice", Mrs. Chung said. However, that mother has never once refused her child's request for money to go to school, to buy books. Many times when she had no money, she borrowed money from around the market, then sold noodles, worked for hire to pay it off gradually. As her child climbed each "ladder" of education, she silently followed behind. Mrs. Chung was illiterate. When her son was in 9th grade, he failed the transfer exam. Then, when she heard that he was going to study at the Continuing Education and Vocational Guidance Center of Mo Duc district, she kept thinking, why did he go to school if he didn't pass? But she didn't care, as long as he went to school, she encouraged him: "Try to study hard, it will be less difficult for you to have knowledge. I'm poor, but I can take care of you if you study."Mrs. Chung was happy on the day her son received his master's degree - Photo: NVCC
I want my mother to smile more.
One day in late December 2023, Ms. Chung left her hometown for the first time. When she arrived in Binh Duong, and was taken to Ho Chi Minh City by her children, the mother from the countryside was overwhelmed by the city. After attending her son's master's degree ceremony, Mrs. Chung returned to her noodle stall at the village market. Knowing that his mother was having a hard time, Hoang Anh studied and worked part-time. He did many jobs, from tutoring to delivery, motorbike taxi, restaurant service... to earn money. But his main time was still spent studying. His mother in the countryside did not know what her son was studying, but still worked hard, and when he needed money, she sent him money. Deep down, Mrs. Chung was always afraid that her son would drop out of school because of difficulties. Hoang Anh did not let that worry come true. In 2020, after graduating from university, Hoang Anh continued to study for a master's degree, but his mother said: "Go ahead and study, I can take care of it." Mrs. Chung was absorbed in following her son, even though she did not fully understand what a master's degree was.
