More than 123.9 million accounts are biometrically matched.

According to the State Bank of Vietnam , this agency has directed the entire industry to proactively collect and compare biometric information with the National Population Database, requiring personal and organizational payment accounts to have biometric information compared when registering for transactions on digital channels.

As of August 15, the banking industry had collected and compared biometric information for more than 123.9 million bank accounts, reaching 100% of the total number of payment accounts of individual customers with transactions on digital channels; for institutional customers, biometric information was compared for more than 1.3 million records, reaching 100% of the total number of payment accounts of institutional customers with transactions on digital channels.

This result has brought about clear results: The number of fraud cases decreased by more than 59%, the number of accounts related to fraud decreased by 52% compared to before. The National Credit Information Center (CIC) also coordinated with the Ministry of Public Security to complete 6 data cleaning sessions with about 57 million records. In addition, most banks and intermediary organizations have deployed the application of chip-embedded citizen identification cards at counters, on digital banking applications and are expanding the integration of VNeID.

In the first 7 months of 2025, non-cash transactions increased by 44.40% in quantity and 25.04% in value compared to the same period. Notably, transactions via QR codes increased by 159.58% in value. Meanwhile, transactions via ATMs decreased sharply by 15.83% in quantity, showing that the trend of cash withdrawals is increasingly giving way to electronic payments.

According to the State Bank of Vietnam, to serve the payment of gifts on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2, this agency has directed 28 banks and 4 intermediary units to link with VNeID, ensuring the payment system operates safely 24/7. The interbank electronic payment system is maintained throughout the holiday to ensure timely and continuous payment to the people.
