Over 135 million tons of cargo passed through seaports in 2 months.

The volume of goods passing through seaports in the first two months of the year increased sharply in areas such as Ho Chi Minh City, Vung Tau, and Hai Phong .


According to the Vietnam Maritime and Inland Waterways Administration, cargo throughput at seaports increased during the first two months of 2025.

Accordingly, the volume of goods passing through seaports reached 135.38 million tons (excluding transit goods not unloaded at the port), an increase of 9% compared to the same period in 2024.

In the first two months of 2025, cargo throughput at seaports increased by 9% compared to the same period in 2024.

Specifically, exports increased slightly by 1%, reaching 31.376 million tons. Imports reached 42.158 million tons, an 8% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Domestic goods increased by 15%, reaching 61.333 million tons. Transit goods alone accounted for 513,000 tons.

Goods volume, measured in TEUs, reached 4.808 million TEU, an 18% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Imports saw a strong 16% increase, reaching 1.591 million TEU. Exports reached 1.487 million TEU, a 5% increase. Domestic goods alone increased by a remarkable 35%, reaching 1.731 million TEU.

The volume of goods passing through seaports by seagoing vessels and inland waterways in the first two months of the year also increased by 11% (reaching 98.74 million tons) and 4% (35.3 million tons) respectively.

According to the Vietnam Maritime and Inland Waterways Administration, the areas with the highest cargo throughput at seaports in the country include Ho Chi Minh City (up 13.53%), Vung Tau (up 10%), Quang Ninh (up 1.4%), Hai Phong (up 2.79%), and other areas with increased volume such as Hue (up 24.02%), Binh Thuan (up 31%), Can Tho (up 49%), Nghe An (up 14%), Quang Ngai (up 18.54%), Dong Nai (up 4%), and Nha Trang (up 11.6%).

Areas experiencing a decrease in cargo volume include Thanh Hoa (down 5.45%) and Da Nang (down 6.18%). Other areas such as Ha Tinh, Quy Nhon, Quang Tri, Quang Nam, Kien Giang, and An Giang also saw a decline in cargo volume.

For containerized cargo, the regions with the highest container throughput nationwide include: Ho Chi Minh City (up 7.34%), Vung Tau (up 18%), and Hai Phong (up 6.86%). Other regions include Quang Nam (up 30.06%), Da Nang (up 13%), Dong Nai (up 7%), Dong Thap (up 63%), and Can Tho (up 16%).

However, some areas still experienced a decrease in the volume of goods transported, such as Thanh Hoa (down 34.22%), Nghe An (down 11%), and Quy Nhon (down 4.23%).

The estimated total volume of goods passing through seaports in the first three months of 2025 is approximately 206.839 million tons, an increase of 4% compared to the same period in 2024. Of this, exports are estimated at 17.257 million tons, a decrease of 1%, while imports are estimated to increase by 6%, reaching 65.345 million tons.

Container cargo throughput at seaports is expected to increase by approximately 11% in the next three months, reaching 7,454 million TEU.
