BTO-The Justice Department of Ham Thuan Bac district has just coordinated with the District Youth Union to organize a mock trial in Ham Duc commune.
The trial took place with the judge, court clerk; representative of the prosecutor's office; police escorting the defendant and court security being members of the People's Court, the People's Procuracy and the district police.
150 members of the commune’s youth union, schools and secondary school students in the commune listened to the court’s trial of a case involving two drug dealers who were discovered and arrested by the police and prosecuted for the crimes of “Illegal possession of drugs” and “Illegal trading of drugs”. The court sentenced the defendants to between 2 years and 5 years and 9 months in prison.
With the judges mostly being people in the industry familiar with investigation and trial, the mock trial seemed real, attracting a lot of attention, especially from students. This helped them understand better that buying, storing, and using drugs is a violation of the law. In addition, the students answered the prize questions given by the organizers well, making the trial more effective.
Mr. Tran Ngoc Dieu - Secretary of Ham Thuan Bac District Youth Union said that after many years of organization, he realized that this model of popularizing and educating the law is very effective. It not only contributes to improving the legal knowledge of the members but also of the students. The members and students are interested in participating because in addition to the trial, there are also performances and questions and answers.
