According to statistics on the evening of May 5 from the Foreign Language Specialized High School, University of Foreign Languages, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, 2,785 candidates have registered to take the 10th grade exam this year.
The English class is overwhelming with 1,526 candidates registered. Last year, the competition ratio for the English class was 1/10.3, meaning that for every student taking the exam, they had to compete with 10 other students to win a place in the school.

Each of the remaining classes receives between 198 and 276 applications. According to last year’s competition ratio, the French and Korean majors had a 1:15.2 ratio.
The Foreign Language High School continues to open registration until May 12, after which the competition rate will be announced. The school notes that candidates cannot change their wishes in the submitted application. Those who submit multiple applications must confirm the only exam class in the morning of the exam registration procedure.
This year, the Foreign Language High School will recruit 500 students and hold an entrance exam on the morning of June 3. Candidates will have to take three exams to assess their abilities in Foreign Language, Mathematics and Natural Sciences , Literature and Social Sciences. The exam structure remains unchanged from last year.
In the Foreign Language Proficiency Test, candidates will have 90 minutes to complete 60 multiple-choice questions and one essay question. Candidates can choose to take the English test to be admitted to all specialized and non-specialized groups or choose to take the French, Chinese, German, Japanese, or Korean tests to be admitted to the corresponding specialized classes.
For the remaining two tests, candidates will take 55 minutes each, with a coefficient of 1. Math and Natural Science tests will consist of 35 multiple-choice questions, while Literature and Social Science will have 20 multiple-choice questions and two essay questions.
The admission score is the sum of the three test scores on a 10-point scale, with Foreign Language multiplied by a factor of two. The Foreign Language Specialized High School will admit students from high to low until the quota is full, from the specialized system with scholarships, specialized system and non-specialized system respectively. The exam results will be announced before June 30.
