Over 3,500 candidates participated in the first phase of the entrance exam at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, to obtain scores for admission to 7 teacher training colleges nationwide.

At 5:00 AM on March 29th, Dang Thu Thao, a student from Nguyen Du High School for the Gifted in Dak Lak province, arrived at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education after a night traveling by car.

The female student won first prize in the provincial-level mathematics competition, so she was almost guaranteed a place in university. However, Thảo wanted to take another exam to test her abilities and increase her chances of being admitted to the Mathematics Education program at the university.

"I've been passionate about math since elementary school. My personality is also well-suited to teaching, and my family has a tradition of teaching, so I've decided to pursue this field," Thảo shared.

Having dreamed of becoming a teacher since childhood and with the support of his family, Minh Thắng, a 12th-grade student at Dĩ An High School in Bình Dương province, registered for two aptitude tests in March and May. Thắng said his main aspiration was to get a high enough score to be admitted to the Mathematics Education major early.

"I enjoy learning new things and teaching others, so perhaps teaching is a suitable career for me. Participating in this competition gives me more opportunities," Thang said.

After 90 minutes of taking the exam, Thang was delighted because the questions were manageable. He completed all 50 questions and predicted he would score 7-8 points.

"The questions were clearly differentiated, from easy to difficult. There were some practical questions that I felt required a lot of spatial visualization, and I needed a solid grasp of 11th and 12th grade knowledge to answer them," the male student said.

Thao assessed the exam as long but manageable, with most of the knowledge tested being from the 11th and 12th grade curriculum. Meanwhile, Minh Khoi, a 12th-grade student in Tan Phu District, Ho Chi Minh City, did not have enough time to complete the entire exam. Predicting a low score, Khoi said he might register for the school's next exam session.

Currently, there are two separate entrance exams for teacher training colleges nationwide, organized by Ho Chi Minh City University of Education and Hanoi University of Education. The exam for Hanoi University of Education will take place in May.

At Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, the results of the specialized aptitude test are used in the admission method in combination with academic transcripts. The university plans to allocate a maximum of 40% of the enrollment quota for each major through this admission method.

The admission score is the sum of the scores from the specialized aptitude test (main subject) multiplied by a factor of 2, plus the average GPA of the remaining two subjects in the combination, then converted to a 30-point scale and plus priority points for eligible candidates and regions (if any).

Six other teacher training colleges use the results of the Ho Chi Minh City Teacher Training College entrance exam for admission, including: Hanoi Teacher Training University, Hanoi Teacher Training College 2, and teacher training colleges affiliated with Thai Nguyen University, Hue University, Da Nang University, and Vinh University.

Last year, the aptitude test at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education had approximately 4,400 participants, double the number in 2022. The admission scores for the combined method of high school transcript scores and aptitude test scores ranged from 15.63 to 28.11 points.
