Over 481 billion VND allocated for the renovation and upgrading of Provincial Road 291.

BAC GIANG - The People's Committee of Bac Giang province has just issued a decision approving the investment plan for the project to renovate and upgrade provincial road 291 (section from Km16+980 - Km25).

Accordingly, during the period 2025-2028, Bac Giang province will invest more than 481 billion VND from the provincial budget to renovate and upgrade the main section of provincial road 291 and the branch connecting to provincial road 293.

Provincial Road 291 passes through Tay Yen Tu town (Son Dong district).

The main section of Provincial Road 291, approximately 8 km long, has been renovated and upgraded. Its starting point is at the intersection with Provincial Road 293 in Tay Yen Tu town (Son Dong district), and its end point is at Km 25+00 in Dong Ri residential area, Tay Yen Tu town. This road is being developed to a Class III mountainous road standard, with a roadbed width of 9 m and a road surface width of 8 m; a interchange with Provincial Road 293 is being constructed to ensure seamless connectivity.

The branch line connecting the main provincial road 291 with provincial road 293 is approximately 1.3 km long; its starting point is at Km0+00, intersecting with provincial road 293 at Km71+950 in Tay Yen Tu town; its end point is at Km1+300, intersecting with provincial road 291 at Km17+810. The roadbed is 16 m wide, and the road surface is 15 m wide.

The investment items for the main and branch lines include: roadbed, road surface, drainage system, traffic safety, etc.

According to authorities, Provincial Road 291 has a total length of approximately 27.4 km. The section from Yen Dinh commune to Tay Yen Tu town (km0+00 - km17+980) has been upgraded to mountainous road standard level III and put into use in early 2024. However, the section from km16+980 (Tay Yen Tu town) to km25 (Son Dong Thermal Power Plant) remains a mountainous road standard level IV, failing to meet the needs of transportation and economic development.

In light of this reality, the project was constructed to gradually complete the transportation infrastructure according to the plan; improve travel conditions, enhance transport capacity, strengthen regional and inter-provincial transportation links, creating favorable conditions for trade between Bac Giang and Quang Ninh provinces. At the same time, it aims to strengthen national defense, maintain security; create favorable conditions for socio-economic development; and promote tourism linkages in the Yen Tu region.
