The My Thuan Project Management Board has just completed the pre-feasibility study report on the Ha Tien - Rach Gia - Bac Lieu expressway construction investment project and submitted it to the Ministry of Transport. Accordingly, the project starts at the Ha Tien border gate area in Ha Tien city, Kien Giang province, and ends at National Highway 1, Bac Lieu city area, Bac Lieu province. The total length of the project is about 175.5km with 4 expressway lanes and 2 emergency lanes, with a design speed of 100km/h. Of which, the route through Kien Giang province is 82km long, Hau Giang province is 18km long; Soc Trang province is 13km long and Bac Lieu province is 25.3km long.
The My Thuan Project Management Board estimates the total investment of the project at about VND80,836 billion from the state budget, expected to start construction in 2026 and be completed in 2030. According to the My Thuan Project Management Board, the early investment in the Ha Tien - Rach Gia - Bac Lieu expressway project is of great significance in gradually completing the expressway system according to the plan. This expressway also connects with the Ha Tien international border gate and becomes an important freight route from Cambodia through the Mekong Delta provinces, thereby promoting socio-economic development and national security and defense in the region.
Currently in the Mekong Delta region, the expressway network system on the Ho Chi Minh City - Ca Mau corridor (belonging to the Eastern North - South expressway axis) has put into operation the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong expressway, about 45km long; Trung Luong - My Thuan expressway, 51.5km long; My Thuan 2 bridge and My Thuan - Can Tho expressway, about 30km long. In addition, the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway, about 109.5km long, is under construction and is expected to be put into operation by the end of 2025. For the Ho Chi Minh City - Rach Gia corridor (belonging to the Western North - South expressway axis), Cao Lanh bridge, Vam Cong bridge and Cao Lanh - Lo Te - Rach Soi route, about 80km long (currently being studied for investment to operate according to expressway standards) have been completed and put into operation. Regarding the horizontal expressway system, according to the road network planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, in the region, the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang route is under construction, and the two routes Hong Ngu - Tra Vinh, Ha Tien - Bac Lieu, the Ministry of Transport is currently coordinating with the state appraisal council to complete the pre-feasibility study report.
