With its pristine and beautiful natural scenery and unique culture and cuisine, visitors to Kon Plông this season can also admire the captivating beauty of the terraced rice fields displaying their vibrant golden hues amidst the deep green mountains.
Since ancient times, ethnic minority communities in many localities within Kon Plông district have reclaimed mountain slopes and hillsides for production, forming terraced rice fields arranged in layers according to the terrain, creating a very unique and distinctive beauty.
To experience the golden season on the terraced rice fields, following a friend's recommendation, we arrived in Mang Den town, Kon Plong district, at dawn. From the center of Mang Den town, traveling along National Highway 24 towards Quang Ngai for about 2km, then turning left onto a concrete inter-village road for about 3km, we reached Kon Vong Kia village. This season, the scenery around the village is at its most beautiful thanks to the shimmering golden color of the ripening rice fields.

Passing through lush green pine forests, you arrive at a village nestled in a valley, surrounded by majestic, undulating hills and terraced rice fields adorned in a beautiful golden hue. Soft white clouds linger over the high mountain slopes, adding to the magical and vibrant atmosphere. In this region, villages are often scattered at the foot of hills or interspersed among the fields. Colorful tin-roofed houses and winding paths create a charming and captivating environment that entices visitors.
The village of Kon Vơng Kia currently has 148 households with 447 inhabitants, mainly Xơ Đăng people of the Mơ Nâm branch, who live by farming. The people of Kon Vơng Kia only cultivate one rice crop per year. During the harvest season, as the sun rises and the summer rays illuminate the entire village's fields, the farmers busily harvest the rice amidst laughter and conversation.
The highlight of the village is the gently winding Nuoc Long stream, which provides fertile soil and irrigation water, ensuring lush rice paddies and bountiful harvests. Charming suspension bridges connect the hamlets and rice paddies, adding to the village's graceful and gentle beauty, inspiring romantic souls who love to explore .

Let's visit another stunning terraced rice field in the district: the Kon Tu Rằng village rice field in Măng Cành commune. The village is located near the "37 households" area of Măng Đen town, a region with numerous agricultural projects and famous tourist attractions. The field can be seen from the hill behind the village, a peaceful and picturesque scene of golden terraced rice paddies winding in the gentle weather and slanted golden sunlight.
Unlike many other rice paddies, the terraced rice fields of Kon Tu Rằng do not have villages on them but are isolated in a valley at the foot of the pristine, verdant Ngọc Lễ mountain. One side of the field is bordered by the flowing Đăk S'nghé river, and on the left bank of the river is the hill where the inhabitants of Kon Tu Rằng village have lived for generations.
The Kon Tu Rang terraced rice fields stretch endlessly, layered upon layer like gentle waves, golden and fragrant, spreading from the sacred Ngoc Le mountain all the way to the river. Looking down from above, the entire field is a soft, captivating carpet of green rice interspersed with golden ripe rice. Some fields are being harvested, others are waiting to be harvested, creating stunning natural landscapes. Although the fields are far from the village and there are no houses nearby, the Mo Mam people here often build small huts and rice storage sheds right in the fields for resting while working and storing food, creating a close-knit and peaceful scene.
To reach the rice fields, locals and tourists must cross a charming suspension bridge. A complex of granaries is built in the open space at the end of the bridge, where the rice is stored for the villagers to eat gradually and for seeds for the next season. Interestingly, all the granaries of the Mơ Nâm people are built far from the village, from simple materials, without guards or security, yet there has never been any theft. Each household uses its own granary, absolutely not encroaching on the rice of others. The granaries have become a symbol of the prosperity and unity of the entire village.
“Since ancient times, the villagers have loved and respected each other, so there has never been any theft of rice from the granaries. But if anyone steals property, depending on the amount stolen, they may be punished by the village elders with having to pay with chickens, pigs, buffaloes, cows, or even worse, being expelled from the village,” said Mr. A Dieu, the village Party secretary and a respected figure in Kon Tu Rang.

You can leisurely stroll through the fields to admire the golden rice, feel the scent of straw during harvest season, or sit and rest by a hut while listening to the clear sounds of nature or hearing locals tell stories about the streams, hills, and terraced fields of this place.
Mr. A Hoan, Secretary of the Party Committee of Mang Canh commune, happily shared: "In recent years, when the rice in Kon Tu Rang ripens to a golden color, many tourists hear the news and flock here to visit and take souvenir photos. Thanks to that, homestays and tourist spots around the village have also become more crowded."
Besides the terraced rice fields mentioned above, Kon Plông district has many other terraced rice fields distributed across most communes. Each place has its own unique beauty, but generally, when the rice ripens, it's a combination of colors: the vibrant yellow of the rice, the deep green of the mountains, the azure blue of the sky, plus the activities of harvest season, the sweat, the smiles, and the radiant faces of the people, creating breathtaking scenes that are impossible to ignore.
With its fresh climate and majestic mountain scenery, each season in Kon Plông district has its own unique beauty, full of mystery and charm. And for those who love the beauty of mountains and forests, photography, and exploration, the golden season here is not to be missed. The best time to visit and admire the golden hues and fragrant aroma of ripening rice is from the beginning of June to the end of July – also known as the harvest season.
Visiting Kon Plông district during the golden season, you will experience the poetic beauty of life.
