Currently, the modern agricultural production process aiming at reducing emissions in production has been applied and guided by many provinces and cities across the country. This process not only develops agriculture in an environmentally friendly direction but also builds a quality rice brand, creating a premise for export and further selling carbon credits, helping farmers increase their income. Mr. Ha Van Thang (Vinh My B commune, Hoa Binh district) shared: “I find the new process of rice cultivation quite good and easy to apply. In the short term, seeing that there are businesses and specialized sectors always accompanying and supporting us, farmers feel somewhat secure when entering the new crop. Hopefully, with this project, the quality of rice in Bac Lieu in particular and the whole country in general will continuously improve in quality and output, creating stable income for farmers”.
It is expected that in 2025, Bac Lieu will deploy 20,000 hectares of low-emission rice for typical rice-producing localities of the province. This will initially lay the foundation for building and increasing the area of low-emission rice production, moving towards agricultural production associated with selling carbon credits.
Mr. Pham Van Muoi - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, said: "It can be said that in recent times, environmentally friendly production methods along with the widespread use of high-quality rice to make rice more delicious, ensuring better health for consumers have helped Bac Lieu rice in particular, and Vietnamese rice in general, to have increasing value in the market. With the trend of green production, building a low-emission rice brand in the future, with the hope that the value of rice grains can nearly double the current, it will open up great opportunities for farmers to get rich and a breakthrough development for the rice industry".
