"The first song Roger Nichols and I wrote was called It's Hard to Say Goodbye," he wrote. " Sadly, that's exactly where we are right now.
Roger Nichols passed away peacefully a few days ago at home surrounded by his loved ones. These were his wife, Terry, and his proud daughters, Claire and Caitlin. They were Roger's dreams come true and the greatest joy of his life."
In his article, Paul Williams also shared his memories of the two when they were working together, and the process of turning them into good partners. In Paul's eyes, Roger was a close colleague and his own teacher.
"He was my collaborator for many years and a dear friend. When I was an unemployed actor and looking for a music career, I signed a contract with A&M Records. They were looking for a lyricist for Roger Nichols. It was a lucky and big turning point in my life," Paul wrote.
Paul recalled that he and the legendary musician wrote music together every day for many years. In Paul's memory, Roger was both disciplined and talented. Roger Nichols's passing left many colleagues in the entertainment industry regretful.
