On May 27, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Seyyid Sattar Hashemi declared: “The Iranian people deserve freedom of communication, a bright future, and a dynamic economy .”
"President Masoud Pezeshkian's commitment to restoring internet connectivity and stabilizing communications is a sign that he stands with the people," Minister Seyyid Sattar Hashemi emphasized.
However, the mechanism and timing for Iran's full reconnection to the global internet remain unclear. Analysts suggest that the decision to end the internet blockade at this time stems, at least in part, from concerns about the impact on the Islamic Republic's economy.

Internet access in Iran remains at risk of being cut off again if protests resume or if negotiations to end the conflict with the US and Israel fail.
Iranian authorities initially imposed an internet outage on January 8th as part of a crackdown on nationwide anti -government protests. Internet connectivity was gradually restored throughout February, before being disrupted again when the US and Israel launched airstrikes against Iran on February 28th.
Prolonged internet outages not only restrict online freedom but also harm businesses that rely heavily on social media to operate, adding further pressure to Iran's already fragile economy, already vulnerable to conflict and US sanctions.
Keyumars, an Iranian computer programmer, said that many people in the country conduct business through platforms like Instagram and Telegram due to the high cost of renting physical space. However, the period of internet outage has left them almost completely broke, forcing them to start over while still burdened with debt, losses, and lost customers.
Alp Toker, director of the internet monitoring organization NetBlocks, said that the process of restoring connectivity in affected areas could take anywhere from a few hours to several weeks. He stated that connections remain unstable and internet access is still severely restricted.
