On November 15, Iran and Russia exchanged views on BRICS activities in various fields, as well as the organization's future expansion and development.

During a meeting between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for External Economic Affairs Mehdi Safari in Tehran, the two sides discussed BRICS activities in the fields of economy and trade, energy, agriculture, science and technology, environment, sports and culture, and many other areas.
Mr. Safari affirmed Iran's determination to play an active role in the diverse activities of BRICS, while assuring that his Ministry would strive to play an effective and constructive role within the organization. For his part, Mr. Ryabkov congratulated Iran on its recent accession to the group, and outlined Russia's priorities during its 2024 BRICS presidency.
BRICS is a group of emerging economies currently comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. In August, the 15th BRICS Summit in South Africa announced that six countries – Iran, Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) – were invited to join the bloc, with their membership effective from January 1, 2024.
