Iran declares it will teach the US a 'lesson' with missiles.

Iran said it attacked targets linked to the US following the tanker attack, and asserted that any act of aggression would be met with a strong response.

In a statement released by the public relations department of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the force said that on the night of June 2, the US military conducted a drone strike on an Iranian oil tanker near the Strait of Hormuz, damaging the ship's engine room, according to Al Jazeera.

"In response to this act of aggression and the violation of regulations governing operations in the Strait of Hormuz, a ship named Panaya, belonging to the US-Israeli enemy, was attacked by missiles launched by the IRGC Navy," the statement said.

The IRGC said that the US military subsequently targeted a communications tower belonging to the force on Qeshm Island.

"In response to this action, the IRGC Aerospace Force conducted missile and drone strikes against an enemy air base and helicopter base located in a country in the region, and also targeted the headquarters of the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet," the statement added.

The IRGC stressed that Tehran had previously warned on numerous occasions that any act of aggression would be met with a "different and stronger" response, and what had just happened was proof of that commitment.

"These retaliatory measures must serve as a lesson. We reiterate that any attempt to undermine the security of the Strait of Hormuz will come at a heavy price for the U.S. military," the IRGC stated.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) also released further information about the exchange of attacks between U.S. and Iranian forces overnight.

Earlier, CENTCOM stated that the U.S. military had fired shots "in self-defense" in response to attacks that Iran had attempted to carry out in various areas of the Middle East.

"Iran launched multiple ballistic missiles toward neighboring countries in the region, but none hit their intended targets. Two missiles aimed at Kuwait either fell before reaching their destination or broke apart in flight, while three missiles launched toward Bahrain were immediately intercepted by U.S. and Bahraini air defenses," CENTCOM said in a statement.

At the same time, the Iranian Foreign Ministry announced that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had held telephone conversations with the foreign ministers of France, Turkey, Qatar, Egypt, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia to discuss the latest developments in the region.

The phone call with Pakistan also included General Asim Munir, Chief of Staff of the Pakistani army.

The diplomatic exchanges took place after Iran carried out a series of missile and drone attacks on Kuwait and Bahrain. Tehran asserted that these were in response to what it called "American aggression."
