Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it and its allies would avenge the death of Guards General Mousavi, who was killed in an airstrike in Syria.
Sharif declared that Iran would act directly as well as coordinate with parties in the "axis of resistance" to avenge General Moussavi.
Iran leads a number of militant groups that form an “axis of resistance” in the Middle East, with the main goal of opposing Israeli and Western influence. Some of them are openly attacking Israel in support of Hamas, such as the Houthis in Yemen and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Iran announced on December 25 that General Mousavi, a senior adviser to the IRGC, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on the Syrian capital Damascus. Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said that "the assassination of General Mousavi" showed Israel's weakness in the region.
The Israeli military said it does not comment on foreign media reports.
Moussavi’s body was flown to Iraq for a funeral at the Imam Ali shrine in the Shiite holy city of Najaf. A memorial service was also held in the city of Karbala, another holy site for Shiites, before being flown back to Iran for burial on December 28.
