Great national unity - the source of will, belief and strength to build and protect the Fatherland in the new era

Great national unity is a precious tradition, an important and consistent strategic line of the Party; a source of great strength, a decisive factor in the victory of the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. The solid foundation of great national unity is the alliance between the working class - peasants and the intelligentsia led by the Party; the strong relationship between the Party and the people, the people's trust in the Party, the State and the regime; solidarity within the Party, solidarity between social strata, between the community of Vietnamese ethnic groups, between religious and non-religious compatriots, between people of different religions, between Vietnamese people at home and abroad; solidarity between the Vietnamese people and peace-loving and progressive people in the world.

Inheriting and promoting Ho Chi Minh's thought on great solidarity

During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh always emphasized the role, mission, and strength of the spirit of solidarity and great national solidarity. He affirmed: “Great solidarity means first of all uniting the great majority of the people, and the great majority of our people are workers, farmers, and other working people. That is the foundation of great solidarity. It is like the foundation of a house, the root of a tree. But once there is a solid foundation and good roots, we must also unite other classes of people. Anyone who sincerely supports peace , unity, independence, and democracy, even if those people were against us in the past, we will now sincerely unite with them” (1). In Ho Chi Minh's thought: "Solidarity is a national policy, not a political trick. We unite to fight for the unity and independence of the Fatherland; we must also unite to build the country. Whoever has talent, virtue, strength, and the heart to serve the Fatherland and the people, we unite with them" (2).

President Ho Chi Minh pointed out that the greatest strength of the Vietnamese revolution lies in the people and if the people can be united, it will create an invincible strength: “In the sky, nothing is more precious than the people. In the world, nothing is stronger than the united force of the people” (3). He also affirmed: “A hundred times easier without the people, we can endure/A thousand times harder, we can complete it with the people”. Through the practical experience of revolutionary struggle, President Ho Chi Minh concluded: “Unity, unity, great unity; Success, success, great success” (4).

Inheriting and developing the ideology of President Ho Chi Minh, in every revolutionary period, our Party has always affirmed: Solidarity is an extremely precious tradition, a strategic line of the Party; is the source of strength, the core value and the main driving force of the Vietnamese revolution, and has decisive significance for all victories in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. Continuing to thoroughly grasp and deeply imbue the viewpoint of great national solidarity, the Politburo established the Central Steering Committee to summarize 20 years of implementing Resolution No. 23-NQ/TW, dated March 12, 2003, of the 9th Central Executive Committee, on "Promoting the strength of great national solidarity for a rich people, a strong country, a fair, democratic and civilized society". Based on a correct and comprehensive assessment of the achieved results, pointing out shortcomings, limitations, causes, and drawing lessons, the 8th Central Conference of the 13th tenure issued Resolution No. 43-NQ/TW, dated November 24, 2023, on "Continuing to promote the tradition and strength of great national unity, building our country to be increasingly prosperous and happy".

Resolution No. 43-NQ/TW sets out the goal of continuing to promote the tradition and strength of national solidarity, strengthen social consensus, strongly arouse patriotism, national self-reliance, belief, aspiration to contribute and build an increasingly prosperous and happy country; contribute to the successful implementation of the goal that by 2030 Vietnam will be a developing country with modern industry and high average income, and by 2045 become a developed country with high income following the socialist orientation.

Resolution 43-NQ/TW also proposed 7 specific solutions, including: 1- Raising awareness and responsibility of Party committees, Party organizations, political systems and people about the position and importance of promoting the tradition and strength of great national unity; 2- Perfecting policies and guidelines on great national unity, arousing the will and aspiration to develop the country; 3- Building and rectifying a clean and strong Party; strengthening solidarity within the Party, maintaining the Party's core leadership role in building and promoting the tradition and strength of great national unity; 4- Enhancing the role, effectiveness and efficiency of the State's operations in promoting the tradition and strength of great national unity; 5- Promoting socialist democracy, the potential and creativity of the people; 6- Innovating the content and methods of operation of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations; Promote mass mobilization work, mobilize all resources for national development; 7- Organize practical and effective patriotic emulation campaigns and movements.

The late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, an exceptionally outstanding leader, the Party's theoretical flag bearer, a staunch communist soldier, a shining example of studying and following Ho Chi Minh's moral example, devoted himself to theoretical research, summarizing practices and publishing the book Promoting the tradition of great national unity, building our country to be increasingly rich, civilized and happy, consistently and thoroughly demonstrating the Party's policy on the role of the people, on practicing democracy, relying on the people to build the Party and the State; on the tradition and strength of great national unity in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

Continuing the glorious career of the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, in the article “Determination to build a strong Party, a prosperous, democratic, fair and civilized Vietnam”, General Secretary and President To Lam continued to affirm the task: “Especially attach importance to and constantly strengthen solidarity and unity within the Party, great national solidarity, the close bond between the Party and the people”, “Firmly maintain the stance, viewpoint and practice of “people are the root”, “people are the subject and center of the renovation process”; all guidelines and policies must truly originate from the lives, aspirations, rights and legitimate interests of the people, taking the happiness and prosperity of the people as the goal to strive for...”.

Outstanding results in building and promoting the strength of national solidarity

Speaking at the 10th National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front for the 2024-2029 term, General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that over the past 94 years, under the leadership of the Party, the Vietnamese revolutionary boat has made many miracles, winning one victory after another. From a country heavily devastated by war, Vietnam has risen to become a symbol of peace, stability, hospitality, and a destination for international investors and tourists. From a backward economy, Vietnam has risen to be among the top 40 leading economies, with a trade scale in the top 20 leading countries in the world. From a besieged and isolated country, Vietnam has established diplomatic relations with 194 member states of the United Nations, has strategic partnerships and comprehensive partnerships with 30 countries, including all major countries, and is an active member of over 70 regional and international organizations. Taking the happiness and prosperity of the people as its goal, Vietnam has achieved the Millennium Development Goals early, and is considered by the United Nations and international friends as a success story, a bright spot in hunger eradication, poverty reduction, and continuous improvement of the material and spiritual life of the people. The above great achievements are due to the wise and talented leadership of the Party; the solidarity, unity, and joint efforts of the entire Party, people and army, including the important role of the great national unity bloc, the contribution of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and its member organizations.

General Secretary and President To Lam stated that over the past 94 years, the Vietnam Fatherland Front has continuously grown, affirming its role and mission in promoting the tradition and strength of great national unity, encouraging, cheering and motivating our people to enthusiastically participate in patriotic emulation movements, arousing and promoting resources and creativity, contributing to the successful implementation of the country's strategic tasks in each historical period. With the achievements gained in the past time, the Vietnam Fatherland Front deserves its role as a political alliance organization, a voluntary union of political organizations, socio-political organizations, social organizations and typical individuals in all classes, social strata, ethnic groups, religions, overseas Vietnamese, the political base of the people's government; a core organization in promoting the tradition and strength of great national unity; an important bridge between the Party, the government and the people; promote the role of the people as subjects in social life; represent and protect the legitimate rights and interests of union members, association members and the people.

Reality shows that, along with the great achievements in socio-economic development and nearly 40 years of implementing the renovation process under the leadership of the Party, the cause of great national unity has achieved many important and comprehensive results. The Vietnam Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations, mass organizations continue to promote their role as the political core in organizing, mobilizing, gathering and converging people of all walks of life, creating increasingly high unity and consensus in society; there are many innovations in the content and methods of operation, widely implementing and improving the quality of patriotic emulation movements and campaigns; being close to the grassroots; diversifying the forms of mobilizing people, focusing on the legitimate and just interests of members, union members, association members and people, contributing to solving many complex problems arising in the development process. The Vietnam Fatherland Front and its member organizations have increasingly performed their role of representing and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of union members and people; proactively participated in social supervision and criticism; fought against corruption and negativity; and played a good role as a bridge between the Party, the State and the people, uniting the Vietnamese people with the people of the world.

The emulation movement "The whole country unites, joins hands, and emulates to prevent, fight and defeat the COVID-19 pandemic" is a vivid demonstration of promoting the tradition and strength of national solidarity, mobilizing the entire Party, the entire people, the entire army, and the entire political system to join in with the consensus and support of the business community and the people, and the help of international friends. The achieved results have affirmed the efforts and high sense of responsibility of the leaders of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and its member organizations; the spirit of solidarity, sharing, response, and cooperation of agencies, localities, businesses, organizations, individuals, Vietnamese people at home and abroad, international organizations, foreign organizations and individuals, and the international community. The work of preventing and fighting the COVID-19 pandemic is a vivid reality, demonstrating the strength of the great national solidarity bloc under the Party's wise and talented leadership. Once again affirming the immortal truth "Ten times easier without people, it is still bearable, a hundred times harder, it is still possible with people" as summarized by President Ho Chi Minh.

Another example is the tradition of mutual love, "Love others as you love yourself", "Help each other" of the Vietnamese people, which has been strongly promoted in the face of the heavy damage caused by storm No. 3 (occurring in September 2024) to the people of 26 northern provinces and cities. Responding to the call of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, compatriots and soldiers nationwide, compatriots abroad, member organizations of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, social organizations, businesses, philanthropists at home and abroad, and foreigners living and working in Vietnam have come together to share and provide spiritual and material support, contributing together with the Party and State to quickly overcome the consequences of storms and floods, restore production and ensure people's lives. Through the receiving account of the Central Relief Mobilization Committee, the amount of support has reached over 2,000 billion VND. For the first time, the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front has promptly directed the public disclosure and transparency of support sources and timely allocation to affected localities with heavy losses in human lives and property, receiving great sympathy, support and praise from all walks of life at home and abroad, multiplying the warm and fragrant comradely love and brotherly affection.

Solutions to promote the strength of national unity in the coming time

To continue inheriting and promoting the strength of national solidarity, on October 16, 17, and 18, 2024, with the spirit of "Solidarity - Democracy - Innovation - Creativity - Development", the 10th National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, term 2024 - 2029, completed the proposed content and was a great success. The Congress is the most vivid and beautiful symbol, demonstrating the strength of national solidarity, an extremely precious tradition of our nation, built and nurtured by many generations of ancestors with sweat, blood, hard work and sacrifice, with the will, faith and aspiration of the peace-loving Vietnamese people; the blood and bones of the children of Vietnam have merged into the motherland to become golden bricks to build the bronze wall of the Vietnamese Fatherland. Therefore, no hostile force can divide our great solidarity. The Congress also accepted and determined to implement the suggestions of General Secretary To Lam to further promote the spirit of great national unity.

Firstly, it is necessary to unify the awareness of the position and special importance of the great national unity bloc and the urgent requirement, more than ever, to give top priority to consolidating and promoting the great national unity bloc under the leadership of the Party. This is one of the key solutions to bring the country into a new era.

In the current period, the Vietnam Fatherland Front needs to play a core role, take the lead in coordinating with member organizations to unite all social classes and outstanding individuals, promote the vanguard role of the working class, awaken the great potential of the peasantry, intellectuals and workers, ensure high unity in awareness, ideology and action, steadfastly adhere to socialist goals and ideals; proactively engage in people-to-people foreign affairs; resolutely protect and maintain national independence and sovereignty, political and social stability, and build an increasingly prosperous and happy country. The Vietnam Fatherland Front and its member organizations need to do a better job of propaganda, education and mobilization so that people can understand, unanimously and wholeheartedly implement the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws; and clearly recognize the plots and tricks of hostile and reactionary forces to distort, cause division and sabotage the great national unity bloc. The Vietnam Fatherland Front must be the core in protecting the Party's ideological foundation and fighting against erroneous and hostile viewpoints.

Second, care for and protect the practical, legitimate and legal interests of the people; the highest goal is to serve the people and make their lives better. Our Party has no interests other than the interests of the people; the people are the center and subject of all policies and guidelines of the Party; all efforts of the Party, the State and the entire political system are only meaningful when the people have a prosperous and happy life. The Vietnam Fatherland Front and its member organizations need to proactively and actively find solutions to care for and improve the lives of the people, especially ethnic minorities, in remote, isolated, border, island areas, old resistance base areas, strategic areas, and areas with a large number of religious people. Detect, make recommendations to Party committees and authorities, and mobilize benefactors to promptly support people in especially difficult circumstances and the disadvantaged, so that no one is left behind. Proactively coordinate with authorities at all levels to effectively resolve pressing social issues at the grassroots level. Actively gather and listen to people's opinions, truly become a reliable support and voice of the people to reflect to Party committees and authorities at all levels. Play a good role in chairing consultation and coordination between member organizations in implementing social supervision and criticism, especially on the issue of "national livelihood". Participate effectively and mobilize people to actively participate in the fight against waste, corruption and negativity. In the immediate future, actively participate in organizing and mobilizing people to successfully conduct the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and the election of People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term.

Third, continue to strongly innovate the content and methods of operation of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in a practical direction, close to the people, accompanying the people, "when the people need the Front, it is there, when the people are in difficulty, the Front is ready to participate". Promote the core role of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in widely implementing high-quality, practical patriotic emulation campaigns and movements, with the satisfaction of the people; compete to successfully carry out the task of socio-economic development of the country in the new period. The methods of mobilization and gathering of the Fatherland Front organization must be diverse, rich in types, lively in content, becoming a mass forum, where people of all walks of life, classes, ethnicities, religions, overseas Vietnamese... meet, exchange information, express opinions, thoughts, aspirations, and have democratic and open dialogue. Gather and maximize the role and contribution of scientists, experts, and outstanding individuals from all walks of life, ethnic groups, religions, and the overseas Vietnamese community to the development of the country. Build a team of cadres of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and people's organizations who are dedicated, responsible, wholeheartedly and wholeheartedly serving the people, for the prosperous and happy life of the people, truly close to the people, listening to the people's opinions, loving the people, being a shining example for the people to love, care for, respect, trust, and share.

The Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front believes that in the coming time, all social classes, strata, people of all ethnic groups, religions, intellectuals, artists, businessmen, enterprises, and overseas Vietnamese will further promote patriotism, national pride, have absolute trust in the leadership of the Party and the management of the State, contribute their intelligence and efforts to constantly consolidate and strengthen the tradition and strength of great national unity, combine with the strength of the times, unite and join hands "Once discussed, it is agreed, once gone, it is achieved, once determined, the whole country is of one mind" to build our beloved Vietnam into a peaceful, independent, democratic, prosperous, prosperous, civilized, and happy country; strongly promote the tradition and strength of great national unity; uphold the will of self-reliance, self-reliance, self-improvement, creativity, and overcome difficulties and challenges; jointly caring for the country's destiny, entering a new era, an era of national growth, striving to successfully implement the 10-year socio-economic development strategy (2021 - 2030), completing the 100-year strategic goal under the leadership of the Party, 100 years of founding the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam...
