US President Donald Trump said he had successfully persuaded Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon to de-escalate tensions. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed not to send troops south of Beirut, while the Lebanese armed group also pledged to end its attacks.

On the social media platform Truth Social, Trump announced: "No troops will be entering Beirut, and those already en route have been ordered to turn back." The US President's announcement came after what he described as a "very productive" phone call with Prime Minister Netanyahu. The US President added that through senior representatives, he also had very good discussions with Hezbollah.
According to him, this force agrees that all shooting will cease – Israel will not attack them and they will not attack Israel. Earlier, on June 1st, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz declared that the Litani River region in southern Lebanon would be turned into a military zone and that attacks on Beirut would continue until Hezbollah stopped its attacks.
