Following his departure from Olympiakos, midfielder James Rodriguez has yet to reach an agreement to join any other team.
James Rodriguez has been unemployed for almost a month now. |
AS reports that Botafogo is the latest club to reject the Colombian international. Negotiations had begun but failed to reach an agreement. Andre Mazzuco, the Brazilian club's Sporting Director, stated: "The Rodriguez situation is over. He's a good player, but we're considering whether signing Rodriguez would bring any value to the team. There has been no new progress in the negotiations, and essentially, everything ends here."
Before Botafogo, Besiktas also expressed interest in signing Rodriguez. However, the two sides couldn't reach an agreement. Several teams in Mexico and Saudi Arabia are also interested in Rodriguez, but no official offer has been made yet.
The Colombian star found himself unemployed at the age of 31. In the summer of 2022, Al-Rayyan (Qatar) released Rodriguez from his contract, allowing him to join Olympiakos on a free transfer until the end of the 2022/23 season. However, the former Real Madrid star had his contract terminated prematurely.
According to Greek media, Rodriguez's attitude is what makes him unpopular. The Colombian player is said to exhibit a haughty, star-like attitude, considering himself the "center of the universe." In the derby between Olympiakos and Panathinaikos, Rodriguez became irritable after being substituted by coach Jose Ansigo. He immediately showed disrespect towards the coach. When Ansigo asked the former Real Madrid star to apologize, the player flatly refused and left the club's training session without permission.
Rodriguez made a name for himself after his breakout performance at the 2014 World Cup with the Colombian national team. He joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2014 for a record €75 million from Monaco, scoring 24 goals in 86 appearances. He then moved to Bayern Munich on loan but had a lackluster spell.
