After parting ways with Olympiakos, midfielder James Rodriguez has yet to reach an agreement to join any team.
James Rodriguez has been unemployed for nearly a month. |
AS reports that Botafogo are the latest club to turn down the Colombian international. The two sides have entered into negotiations but failed to reach an agreement. Andre Mazzuco, the Brazilian club's sporting director, said: "Rodriguez's story is over. He is a good player but we are considering whether signing Rodriguez could bring value to the team. There has been no progress in the negotiations and it is basically over."
Before Botafogo, Besiktas also expressed interest in recruiting Rodriguez. However, the two sides could not find a common voice. Several teams in Mexico and Saudi Arabia are also interested in Rodriguez but no official offer has been made.
The Colombian star is unemployed at the age of 31. In the summer of 2022, Al-Rayyan (Qatar) released Rodriguez from his contract to join Olympiakos as a free agent under a contract that runs until the end of the 2022/23 season. However, the former Real Madrid star was terminated early.
According to Greek media, Rodriguez's attitude is what makes him hated. The Colombian player is said to be capricious, likes to act like a star, considers himself "the center of the universe". In the derby between Olympiakos and Panathinaikos, Rodriguez was irritable after being substituted by coach Jose Ansigo. He immediately showed disrespect to the coach. When Mr. Ansigo asked the former Real star to apologize, the player flatly refused and left the club's training session.
Rodriguez made his name after a breakout World Cup with Colombia in 2014. He joined Real in the summer of 2014 for a record 75 million euros from Monaco, scoring 24 goals in 86 appearances. Rodriguez then moved to Bayern Munich on loan but struggled to make an impact.
