A recent report by global cybersecurity company Kaspersky shows that the company has prevented a large number of email phishing attacks in Vietnam throughout 2022, targeting both individual users and businesses.

Specifically, the total number of malicious emails blocked by Kaspersky's Anti-Phishing system in 2022 was 17,847,857, of which 1,569,005 were attacks targeting businesses and the remaining 16,278,852 were attacks targeting consumers in Vietnam.

“Our latest statistics from across countries show that cybercriminals continue to develop new phishing techniques, targeting both individuals and businesses. That is why we need to continue to work hard to protect our assets and data online ,” said Adrian Hia, Managing Director of Kaspersky Asia Pacific.

Phishing is a type of crime where criminals attempt to obtain sensitive information, such as usernames, passwords, and financial data, by masquerading as a trusted entity. These attacks often involve the use of fraudulent emails, text messages, or websites designed to trick recipients into disclosing information.

In fact, not only Vietnam has witnessed a large number of phishing attacks, but other countries in the Southeast Asian region have also encountered similar cases in recent years. Thailand and Malaysia are the two countries with the highest number of phishing attacks in the region in 2022, with 6,283,745 and 8,267,013 cases respectively. Meanwhile, Singapore is the country with the lowest number of phishing attacks in the region, with 1,556,232 cases.

“We have recently seen an increase in targeted phishing attacks, where scammers will not immediately switch to phishing, but will act after a few introductory emails with positive interactions with the victim. Our experts predict that this trend is likely to continue. New tricks are also likely to appear in the enterprise sector in 2023, with attacks generating significant profits for scammers,” adds Adrian Hia.
