According to AP , Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed not to escalate the conflict and will “seek a comprehensive solution” after weeks of cross-border fighting that killed hundreds of people, the Chinese government said on April 8 after it brokered the talks.
"The parties also agreed to maintain dialogue following seven days of peace talks mediated by China in Urumqi, China," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning.

"The three parties agreed to seek a comprehensive solution to the problems in relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan, and to clearly identify the core issues and priorities that need to be addressed," Mao Ning said at a regular press briefing in Beijing, China.
She stated that both sides acknowledged that "terrorism is a core issue affecting bilateral relations." Afghanistan and Pakistan affirmed that they would not "take any actions that could escalate or further complicate the situation."
The Islamabad government has not commented on the week-long talks.
Meanwhile, Afghan Foreign Ministry spokesman Abdul Qahar Balkhi said on April 8 that talks between Afghan and Pakistani delegations, chaired and mediated by China in Urumqi, had concluded.
In a post on X, Abdul Qahar Balkhi said the talks took place in a “constructive atmosphere,” focusing on bilateral relations, security issues, and regional stability. Balkhi thanked Beijing for hosting the talks and expressed hope that the process would help strengthen trust, deepen relations, and promote effective cooperation in the region.
The talks, which began last week in Urumqi at the invitation of China, aim to end the conflict that erupted between Pakistan and Afghanistan in February 2026.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Afghanistan said on April 7 that the conflict had displaced a total of 94,000 people, while 100,000 people in two Afghan districts near the border have been completely isolated due to fighting since February.
