Janine Freuling (from the Netherlands) is enjoying a long trip in Vietnam after 5 years of living and working in Bali (Indonesia). She chose Da Nang as her stopover and commented that this is a “livable city, suitable for experiencing the digital nomad life”.
Janine revealed that she really likes Vietnamese coffee and was surprised to see that this famous drink can be transformed into many different styles. Therefore, during the first few days in Da Nang , the Western visitor spent time tasting some versions of coffee that were both strange and familiar.
She said that after the experience, she will give an evaluation to choose her favorite coffee, as well as introduce to everyone delicious drinks that should be tried when coming to Vietnam.
Janine shared that she had tried 6 versions of coffee in Da Nang, from the ones she had enjoyed such as coconut coffee, salt coffee, egg coffee to the new ones including peanut coffee, cheese coffee, yogurt coffee.
According to Janine, the coffee here is mainly machine-brewed, has a strong sweet taste and is affordable, from 32,000 to 39,000 VND/cup. The Dutch tourist is also impressed with the local street coffee style.
“You can see these little chairs on the sidewalk. This is a popular outdoor coffee spot,” said Janine.
After trying 6 versions of coffee, Janine commented that each dish has its own flavor and each person will have a different feeling depending on their taste. She commented that peanut coffee and yogurt coffee are quite unique but she is not used to drinking them so she finds them not to her taste.
“The peanut coffee tasted okay but was too thick and creamy, not my thing. The coffee yogurt was something I had never tried before, and I didn’t even know coffee and yogurt could go together.
If I have the chance to come back, I will still go to these drink shops but maybe try other coffee experiences," Janine shared her feelings.
The Western guest praised the egg coffee and cheese coffee for their richness and low price, only 39,000 VND. Of which, the egg coffee “didn’t taste fishy”, while the cheese coffee “perfectly blended salty and sweet”.
“The egg coffee here tastes quite similar to the egg coffee I had last time in another place. However, this drink is quite concentrated, I cannot drink 2-3 cups but have to drink it every other day to avoid getting drunk,” she said.
However, Janine concluded that salt coffee and coconut coffee were her two favorites. In terms of taste, she rated salt coffee 9.5/10 points, and coconut coffee 8/10 points.
According to the female tourist, coconut coffee has "a very strong coffee flavor, delicious coconut cream, with crispy, sweet dried coconut", and salted coffee "is like salted whipped cream but still sweet, not too salty, harmonious flavor".
Janine said that among the coffee versions she enjoyed in Da Nang, although some were not as expected, she still found this an interesting experience, giving her the opportunity to learn more about the drinks and the creative, unique brewing methods of the Vietnamese people.
She also emphasized sharing her personal feelings, tastes and thoughts, and hoped that foreign tourists who have the opportunity to come here can refer to and choose delicious coffee dishes according to their preferences.
