Keo Pagoda Festival opens in Autumn 2024

On the evening of October 12 (ie September 10 of the lunar calendar), at the special national relic Keo Pagoda in Duy Nhat commune, Vu Thu district, Thai Binh province, the 2024 Keo Pagoda Autumn Festival officially opened.

This year's Keo Pagoda Autumn Festival takes place from October 12 to 19 (ie September 10 to 17 of the lunar calendar). Right after the opening drumbeat, a large number of people and tourists from all over the world were able to watch a special art program inspired by the epic poem "Keo Pagoda - sacred origin" consisting of 3 chapters: "Legend of Keo Pagoda", "Fragrance of land and love of people", "Forever shining a homeland".

Another important activity after the Opening Ceremony that is awaited by locals and tourists is the Saint Procession held from October 15 to 17 (September 13 to 15, Giap Thin year).

Besides traditional rituals such as: Opening ceremony, incense offering ceremony, Saint procession ceremony, this year's festival also has restored and preserved rituals such as puppetry to serve the Saint and mediumship.

During the festival, there will be many unique cultural and artistic activities: Singing boat cruise, exchanges between rowing clubs, water puppetry performances, phoenix betel making, rowing dance, singing, duck catching in the lake, traditional martial arts...

In addition, the 2024 festival season also has 130 booths including commercial booths, folk food areas, display areas, introducing OCOP products and key products of localities in the province and many provinces and cities across the country.

Keo Pagoda, whose Chinese name is Than Quang Tu, is one of two special national monuments of Thai Binh province. According to the recorded legend, the pagoda began construction in 1630 with 42 workers participating. Keo Pagoda was built in the style of "inner public and outer foreign", with Buddha in front and Saint in the back. Currently, there are 17 structures with 128 compartments. In 2017, the traditional festival of Keo Pagoda was recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage. In 2021, the altar of Keo Pagoda was recognized as a National Treasure.

Keo Pagoda Festival is a big festival, attracting a large number of people in the southern Red River Delta to come to worship, sightsee and burn incense to worship Buddha and Saints.
